Bio: Marci Geller, a piano-based contemporary singer-songwriter from Stony Brook, New York, has recently released her first solo project since disbanding her popular trio, Lucky 13, in 2011. Her latest release, Open Book, is currently garnering airplay on radio stations across the country -- having debuted at #33 on the Folk DJ Chart and included in the “Top 100 Albums 2012” in Cashbox Magazine/Roots Music Report Folk chart.

Named an “Editor’s Choice” in 2010 as one of its favorite songwriters of the last decade by Independent Songwriter Magazine, Geller was selected earlier this year to showcase at both the annual Singer Songwriter Cape May conference and the 11th Annual Songwriters Showcase hosted by the New York Sheet Music Society, an organization that seeks to preserve the Great American Songbook. She’s performed on Live with Regis, Good Day NY and Fox Morning Show, and her music can be heard in soundtracks on MTV, VH-1, PBS, ABC Family, A&E, Discovery channel, USA Network and others. Geller also toured for two years as the support act and back-up vocalist for Ritchie Blackmore’s band, Blackmore’s Night.

While the music industry focuses on younger and more mainstream artists/acts, and with labels in a state of panic amid ever decreasing CD sales, Marci Geller is a seasoned indie artist who is remaining grounded in the music and is focused on sharing it with people -- and not on “fame.” She has been pursuing her career as an independent artist since the mid-1990s and believes that life is even better, the musical message is even clearer, and the success is getting sweeter as she appeals to an audience that is intelligent and reflective about their lives and eager to live them.

The new CD, Open Book, is a frothy mix of irony, humor and whimsical honesty with folk sensibilities. Geller called upon long-time friend and musical collaborator David Warner Cook to lay down acoustic guitar and co-produce with her and her husband, Gian DiMauro.

Having shared the stage with luminaries James Maddock and Vance Gilbert, she invited them to add their talent to the evolving CD. Without hesitation, both expressed their excitement about supporting Geller and her new project. Maddock's voice fit like a glove on "Day Without the Kids," and added gripping and haunting vocals on "Awakened Mind." Gilbert's soulful duet performance on "No Weather Down" was recorded at Neale Eckstein's Fox Run Studio. "Jack Sang On" is a tribute to the late Jack Hardy, written by Geller after hearing of the passing of the legendary folksinger-songwriter.

“With intelligent lyrics, captivating melodies and inspired vocal pairings with James Maddock and Vance Gilbert, Marci Geller’s latest release, Open Book, is a great listen from the first song to the last,” says Alan Marzelli, curator of the Words & Music concert series at the Ossining (NY) Public Library. Noted singer-songwriter Lori Lieberman calls Open Book “a lovely collection of songs that reflect the artist’s inner strength and positivity. Songs / music / arrangements / vocals – just beautiful.” Calling Open Book “a well-crafted musical treat for the soul,” singer-songwriter Reggie Harris says: “Marci’s crisp, warm vocals ride the wave of this smartly articulate production -- creating a wondrous space for the lyrics and melodies to find their way into the heart.” Vance Gilbert refers to Geller as a “dulcet-voiced angel,” while David Buskin of the Buskin & Batteau Trio calls her “one of the finest singer-songwriters we’ve come across,” and Michael Jaworek from The Birchmere says "You're a BIG talent."
