"B.B. King fills TPAC for a third time"

New York singer-songwriter Marco Joachim then offered his jingle-jangle, Dylanesque brand of acoustic blues, accompanying himself with a mix of flat picking and finger-style guitar playing he calls "slickin" Joachim mixed in his own material, including a very folksy ballad "Chaplinesque" which won for him the Woody Guthrie Award for best song. Then it was almost time for the king of Blues..." by Bill Blankenship, The Topeka Capital Journal - The Topeka Capital-Journal

"Sing Out! Magazine Review"

With his black derby, harp, and rather serious air, Marco Joachim looks like a cross between Dylan and Donovan. Add a title like Changing times and it's easy to guess this guy's a folksinger with important things on his mind. In many ways, Joachim seems intent on drawing from and updating 1960s folk traditions. Joachim's pleasing tenor and knack for clever melodies on a fist full of originals makes Changing Times easy on the ears. The nifty chord progression of "River of Tears" gives Joachim's vocal a lift in all the right places, while "Chaplinesque" manages to effortlessly mesh the shifting guitar arrangement with the melancholy lyric. The fiddle adds just the right feel to the romantic highway song, "White Lines," while the harmonies of "Carry Me On Home" adds a spiritual aura. There's also a real nice traveling song called "American Van" that shouldn't be confused with that awful '70s song about a Chevy van... The best thing about Changing Times is that Joachim has something to say and does so intelligently. The nature of the lyrics, which are about life in a universal sense as opposed to politics, assure that they won't read like CNN headlines when they're a week. Even when Joachim falls short, he never comes off as yet another singer-songwriter complaining about the confusion in his soul. That's surely something to be thankful for. -- RL, Sing Out! Bio

Marco Joachim is often referred to as the "NY Troubadour." From the cobblestone streets and the coffee house music circuit based in Greenwich Village, Marco interjected rock and pop elements to acoustic folk, drawing new listeners to The Baggot Inn on Sullivan Street. He writes original songs and is well-versed in traditional folk songs and blues.

Marco's CD, "Changing Times," was produced by Joe Mardin (arranger and producer for Raul Midon, Jewel, Chaka Kahn, Bette Midler, etc.). The CD is comprised of original songs and new arrangements of folk songs and some blues. You can download his songs on iTunes or buy his CD from CDBaby.com.

His original songs feature strong melodies and hooks, with poetic and sometimes dreamy, poignant lyrics. His melodic singing voice can cut through the iciest heart, yet he also can belt out powerful, soulful blues.

His influences are folk, blues as well as Woody Guthrie, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, The Beatles and Bob Dylan, as well as most 60’s groups. His dynamic finger picking and strumming, and wide range as a singer, make his shows a special experience. His irreverent humor and sometimes-sardonic wit is often heard between songs. Ramblin’ Jack said of Marco "I like his singing and especially his guitar picking…Amazing."

Marco comes from a musical family. His cousins are Jack Elliot (Grammy Award Winner) and Sonny James (20 consecutive #1 Country hits) the Country singer.

Marco opened for B.B. King in Topeka, Kansas at the Topeka Performing Arts Center in front of two thousand plus and thrilled the audience. "New York singer-songwriter Marco Joachim then offered his jingle-jangle, Dylanesque brand of acoustic blues, accompanying himself with a mix of flat picking and finger-style guitar playing he calls "slickin" Joachim mixed in his own material, including a very folksy ballad, "Chaplinesque," which won for him the Woody Guthrie Award for best song. Then it was almost time for the king of Blues…" by Bill Blankenship, The Topeka Capital Journal.

In 1999 he won the Woody Guthrie Songwriter Award for his composition “Chaplinesque." Marco’s favorite Woody Guthrie quote is "I am out to sing the songs that make you take pride in yourself" Woody Guthrie.

Marco plays in NYC at The Baggot Inn off Bleeker Street and The Triad Lounge at 72nd Street, CB’s Gallery, Iggy’s, Bean as well as the East Coast College circuit. He can be heard on numerous radio stations across America.

Marco played at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC in October 2003. You can see his performance in the archives at kennedycenter.com.
