Bio

Marc O’Reilly grew up in a culturally diverse and musically gifted family. His mother is from Nantes in western France, where Marc spent his summers during his formative years. His father hails from County Cork in Ireland.

Marc’s venture into the world of music began when he was nine. Piano lessons were where it all started (and where his career as a pianist ended!). He got his first guitar, a Larkin, shortly after he began playing the piano. He was hooked.

The first song he wrote was called "The Lonely Man" - a bluesy number about a homeless guy. His teens involved gigging in many different rock bands and regular recording sessions at his uncle’s recording studio in Fermoy, Co Cork. He spent many weekends traveling with his father and uncle’s band "The Loudest Whisper". This experience gave him a taste for “life on the road” and he loved it.

Marc’s real musical truth began during his first year at university. He found a niche, and he started writing music that he likes to describe as contemporary/folk/blues.

After college, following his father’s sage advice of “getting a fallback position”, Marc attended medical school. With his degree in his back pocket he is taking the next step toward realising his true career aspirations, that of a touring musician.

Over the past 2 years he has been gigging on a regular basis, supporting the likes of Jeff Fenlin, Jeff Lang and Peter Mulvey. He is just finishing up his debut album “My Friend Marx” and hopes to launch it during a tour of the U.S. in early 2008.

Marc certainly would have made a great doctor, but it would have been ashamed to deprive the world of his musical gifts!
