"...taking center stage at Tulsa's DFEST"

Marcy Priest finds an easy home alone onstage with an acoustic guitar or behind the piano leading a full band through “Awake,” her just-released album. The release is upbeat and Priest is upfront throughout the seven-song disc, a polished offering lead by the wide-eyed “Runaway Train”; the indie piano declaration, “Enough”; and her storming “Never Ending,” during which she says it best: “I’m a weapon or an instrument.” - Joe Wertz, Oklahoma Gazette

"Marcy Priest's "Awake""

Awake, the debut album from Oklahoma City based singer/songwriter Marcy Priest is a thematically poignant title, signifying both the realization of an artist's life dream and, for listeners, an awakening from the recent wave of platitudinously ‘original’ singer/songwriters. The album consistently features a vocal-centric aesthetic...Priest comes across as part Annie Lennox, part Sarah McLachlan while the guitar work evokes thoughts of Andy Summers (The Police). - Trevor Dye, JamBase.com

"Marcy Priest Shifts from Studio to Stage"

This collection...is a platform for Marcy Priest to put her voice upfront through various roles, whether it's featured in the crunching rock of "Never Ending", the soft, spiritual gospel of "Grace", the smoky, jazz-fueled "New Name", or even the soul-siren turn she takes in "Enough."

"Review: Marcy Priest, "Awake""

Most of the songs from this Oklahoma City artist are certainly easy to listen to. The tunes are not overplayed. The treatment of such tunes as "Finding You" from Awake (2008 Braveh Music) leads the listener to believe this is a very personal statement from Priest. Then come the songs "Never Ending," and "Runaway Train," which don't sound less personal or intense, but the rhythms take a listener somewhere other than the "Finding You" world. There's a bit of torch in Priest. I think the key to separating Priest from some other individual singers is in really understanding the lyrics. Keep your ears open for this gal. - Indie Update (Indie Music Blog)
