Do lullabies ever fail to enchant? On Pretty Mess, her full-length debut, Detroit singer-songwriter Maren Coleman wraps her lullaby in her sweetest indoor voice. And, accompanied as it is by her gentle finger-picking on an acoustic guitar, you could drift off. But Coleman's not singing to a baby. There's steely resolution behind her words; it's a lullaby, but it might also be a last hope.

At 9 p.m., March 9, Knights of Columbus 2.

"Small in stature, large in heart and soul. Young in age, mature in life. Maren provides musical thoughts, smiles and tears from her days of experiences at both sides of the bar. Luxuriate oneself in her stories of despair and hope, of spirituality and melancholy, of loves lost and found, all from a sound that reflects as if an old timepiece has found a new home." ~Matt Merta Americana Music Association

Bio

Maren's debut album "Pretty Mess" was released late fall of 2006, independently by the artist to a small but well-received audience in Detroit, MI. Shortly after, she was featured on PBS's "Open Mic" program, where "once-unknown artists like Sufjan Stevens and Regina Spektor were first heard" before they exploded unto the scene.

Maren is currently in the studio recording her second album and first full-length release due out this Winter.
