Marianne Thomas: Bio

A luminous voice, captivating connectivity, enchanting artistry: Marianne Thomas is a singer/songwriter whose soulful essence is revealed through her new CD The Book of Beasts. The CD’s title is an allusion to a style of book from medieval times with myths and legends and a focus on exotic and monstrous creatures. The CD is a vivid work of epic orchestration, cinematic songwriting and a performance of sheer vocal power.

10 years as the lead singer for several busy show bands in Boston, Massachusetts honed her considerable vocal and performance sills. As a comedic ham with a lively, appealing demeanor, Thomas also enjoyed the role of co-host for “Another Night,” a late-night TV comedy talk show in the Boston area.

Growing up in Washington state and moving to Providence, Rhode Island at the age of 13, provided a duality of locales and cultural influences for Marianne. A BA degree in Music Composition from the esteemed Ivy League Brown University, (with Lisa Loeb and Duncan Shiek as recording class comrades) and a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education are among her impressive academic qualifications. But it is her connection to a fathomless reservoir of words and music that makes her an entrancing songwriter and recording artist

“I have found that difficult emotional circumstances bring forth some of the best songs, and that writing those songs helps me deal with that sorrow, or anger, or emptiness that we all deal with.” she says. “Writing helps me make sense of the world inside of me - and sharing the songs hopefully helps others to find comfort in their world and their struggles too.” It’s the beautiful circular path of an artist.
