Bio

Maria Paras has had a self-confessed obsession with music for most of her life and her breakthrough debut album Sound Philosophy, certainly proves it.

Written, arranged and produced by Maria Paras, with Maria also as Executive Producer, Sound Philosophy is a commentary on life and living, the ultimate result of years of songwriting and the past two years developing the album in the studio with co-Producer Simon Tonx.

In her hometown of Newcastle, Australia, Maria started learning classical piano at the age of 7 and would continuously sing at home with her two older sisters. An amazing ability to sing lead and harmony vocals developed and, combined with her classical training and attraction to pop music on the radio, a genuine passion for music developed.
By the age of 14, Maria had developed a fascination with blues that led her to learn the saxophone and to discover a very mature, sensual singing voice. Coming from a Greek background and having a passion for Latin American dancing, Maria's musical and vocal influences have been diverse to say the least, and Maria began writing her own songs at the tender age of 15, including songs in the style of pop, blues, r'n'b, instrumental and world.

As a seasoned performer, Maria spent her teenage years performing in acoustic duos, world and jazz bands whilst studying a combined Arts (Psychology)/Law degree at university.
Not being satisfied with just working 9 to 5 and going through the motions, Maria decided to use all her down time to commit to making Sound Philosophy. “I would leave work and go to the studio for hours on end working on the album…my phone would be ringing on silent, and my friends were wondering if I had fallen off the face of the earth. Then I would go home, sleep and get up for work again the next morning and do it all over again.” Maria also spent time entertaining crowds in Sydney, performing original music in order to test out the album songs on her audiences.

After developing the songs to their full potential and being lucky enough to work with some of Sydney’s finest musicians, the result is the final mixed and mastered version of Sound Philosophy. Written primarily as a Pop album, Maria’s influences are obvious with the songs being saturated in elements of Soul & RnB. The beauty of these songs comes through with rich melody lines, intense lyrics, great vocal arrangements and punchy grooves, making it an incredible musical ride, and definitely the first of many.
