Inspired by everything from local landscapes & sing alongs, her uncle's mesmeric voice to American soul and blues godmothers Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Nina Simone and breaths of experimental electronica producers Brian Eno, Jon Hopkins and others. Somerville's songwriting spirit is an evolutionary coming together of all these elements
A taste of what is to come can be heard on Maria's debut EP due for release in January 2014. Her live performances at HWCH, Electric picnic and support to David Kitt at the Roisin Dubh, smaller intimate gigs at Donegals Craft Village and The Kevin Kavanagh Gallery have been met with intrigue and awe. She truly is like nothing you've ever heard before.
