Bio

It may seem hard to believe that Marie Pascale Affana is only 28 years old, simply because within the 10 years since the beginning of her Musical Discovery Journey, she has managed to: graduate from Medical School with Honours, achieve a Grade 5 Distinction ABRSM (Associated Board of Royal School of Music) Flute Certification, build and establish her own Translation and Interpreting Company, all this while performing on multiple stages as a chorister, soloist, background singer or dancer. Now, after years of vocal and performance training and underground performing, she is stepping out on her own as “Marie Pascale”, the singer.

Why now? You may ask. Well, because now it is time.

Born in March 1991 on Easter Day in the beautiful city of Douala, Economic Capital of Cameroon, Marie grew up with a passion for Medicine and Music, one of which (music), she was unable to fully pursue on a wide scale.

Her music journey truly began in March 2009, when Marie Pascale and her sister Clementine travelled to the Nature Isle of the Caribbean, Dominica to pursue Medical Studies. At the time, the journey to Dominica reminded her of a similar journey that her ancestors took many years ago, though unwillingly. This similarity fuelled her determination to represent the Motherland by sharing everything she could with anyone who would encounter her. She joined the acclaimed Sixth Form Sisserou Singers choir in 2011 and started performing in church, and later, at national and regional concerts.

Moving away from her African music roots allowed her to reinvent herself and discover her voice and her sound. She describes her sound as “Afro Sound”, which simply embodies everything with an innate style and rhythm. Beyond the sound that she grew up listening to, it includes everything that has shaped her journey. She offers a perfect blend of her African heritage and Caribbean shaping in her sweet Afrobeats, Afropop, Afrodance, Zouk and Kompa compositions.

Influenced by the greatest African performers, to the likes of Brenda Fassi (South Africa) and Angelique Kidjo (Benin), Marie Pascale sings from her soul. Her high-pitched silvery voice walks the fine line between being seductive and being charming, while maintaining its richness.  Her roaring and unapologetically energetic performances drip with emotion and fire. Her audience feels everything she wants to express.

To date, she has graced many stages, including the Dominica Staging of Broadway Musical “Once On This Island” (2017), Dominica’s Carnival Opening Ceremony (2018) or Miss Dominica pageant (2019). She co-headlined her own Dominica’s Jazz and Creole Festival Fringe event (Jazzique) in 2019, and most recently performed at the 2019 Gospel Thanksgiving concert in remembrance of the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017 in Dominica. She released a featured video in August 2019 for the song “Away” with Dominica’s Premiere Kompa band “Extasy Band” in anticipation for the 2019 edition of Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival. In September 2019, she also released her first solo music video for her second single “Baby Oh” which rose to immediate popularity, gathering 3000 views on YouTube only hours after its release.

Marie Pascale’s creative muse has fuelled her entrepreneurial and community oriented philanthropic pursuits. Not being able to experience music in its full value as a child has made her tremendously passionate about working with children and youth choirs. She has founded, directed and trained many youth choirs in Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, composed and co-written seven (7) musicals, mini-musicals and plays, instructed children choirs at summer programs, and simply given her time, talent and treasure to any young person wishing to get involved in performing arts. For her it is not just about doing it, it is about making sure everyone does it too.

With the official launch of her carrier, she is working to launch the “I Speak Musik” Movement and later the NGASKA Foundation (named after her Mother), to continue to promote, fund and carry out Music Education projects and programmes for children worldwide. Her real mission is to let music speak for itself and ensure that her music speaks to others.

Despite all of these achievements, Marie Pascale is only getting started. Armed with her determination and passion, she is working hard to add much more credit to her blossoming resume: philanthropist, entrepreneur, worldwide music advocate.

Meet Marie: the Medical Doctor to heal your body and the Musician to heal your soul. This is your “Triple M” deal. If her vocals and performances don’t seal the deal, her light and positive energy or her indomitable winning spirit will definitely steal you away!
