Bio

Fresh, creative and honest, Marie-Fatima expresses a musical maturity beyond her years. Her appreciated presence on the Montreal jazz scene has continued to develop since her graduation from the McGill Jazz faculty in 2005; she has spent the past 6 years playing and developing a distinct voice. Her trio has been performing in festivals, competitions, and clubs in Montreal and Toronto, and is the perfect vehicle to showcase her whimsical, colourful compositions, and her warm, vibrant stage presence. Marie-Fatima is proud to release her second album, Songbird’s Prayer, a most satisfying follow up to 2009‘s contemplative debut CD, Transparence. Joined by the masterful Jim Vivian on bass and widely sought-out drummer John Fraboni, Marie-Fatima expands on the trio formation with Cameron Wallis on saxophone on 3 of the 10 delightful tracks. This opus is overflowing with musicality, sensitivity, and elegance: every tune is a sparkling gem, demonstrating a deep understanding of harmony and a strong ability for melodic developmemt. Songbird’s Prayer is a beautifully woven work of art, testimony to this young artists’ immense growth-both personal and musical-her contagious vibrancy, and unmistakable sophistication.
As a sideman, Marie-Fatima contributes to many ensembles: Cameron Wallis Quartet, Ben Henriques Band, Jazz in the Point.
