A lifelong performer, Mariella began her career as a dancer performing with such notables as Hank Williams jr,and Sergio Mendes. She has been a featured performer at the Superbowl, Sugarbowl, and festivals around the country. Although dance led her to the arts, it was music that really stirred her soul.
In 2002 Mariella began collaborating with friends who would later become the XO. It was during this period that Mariella discovered her voice as a soulful vocalist and developed into a poignant songwriter. Together they host "Freestyle Mondays", a critically acclaimed hip-hop open mic session attracting a who's who of emcees, musicians, and singers. Mariella and XO have been featured on Telemundo, BET, MNN, and various publications and webzines.They have become a mainstay performing at top NYC venues,including the acclaimed "Summer Stage" series opening for latin funk band "Yerba Buena". Look for Mariella and XO aboard the Intrepid this summer for the MS society's annual charity event!
Mariella's live show is dynamic and full of personality. Mariella's love of jazz,hip-hop and soul is evident in her vocal stylings as well as her lyrics. Her influences include Billie Holiday, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Carole King, Celia Cruz, Stan Getz, Roberta Flack and Marvin Gaye.
