Bio

A native of Varennes on the South Shore of Montreal, Marie-Mai registered for an audition to participate in the first 2003 season of the Quebec show Star Académie. She became a female finalist and which then began the challenge of a memorable 52 day tour of 45 shows!
In 2004, she was casted for the role of Mimi in the musical comedy Rent where her talents as a singer, dancer and actor where noticed. During the fall of the same year, she introduced her first solo album, Inoxydable, as singer-songwriter and composer. It sold more than 120 000 copies, and her first extract, Il faut que tu t’en ailles, Inoxydable hit the top of the charts.
In 2005, Marie-Mai is nominated at the popular MuchMusic Video Awards and she is awarded with the Best French Video for the song clip Il faut que tu t’en ailles. It is in April 2005 that Marie-Mai kicked off her first solo tour. The critics and the Quebec public were seduced by the show Inoxydable. It was the summer of 2005 when she concludes the Francofolies de Montréal before a crowd of over 40 000 people.
In 2006, Marie-Mai begins the conquest of the French public. She was once again undeniably succesful as she is nominated the big winner of the Talent de l’été contest, an initiative by the French television network M6. Her victory is revealed on the French network on September 30th 2006 on the show Hit machine. Marie-Mai will sell 35,000 copies of her album Inoxydable over seas. In November, Marie-Mai accepts Garou’s invitation to open his French tour which included the Olympia. In December 2006, she gives her first solo show at the Bataclan in Paris. She continues simultaneously to ensure the continuation of the Inoxydable tour in Quebec. In the summer of 2007 at the Francofolies, she tackles the Montreal Spectrum with an exceptional show offering many remakes of her favorite groups, new arrangements and hits from her album Inoxydable.
On August 29th, 2007, after more than two years of preparation, Marie-Mai launches her second album Dangereuse attraction, produced by Fred St-Gelais. She participated in all of the production stages and she co-wrote the lyrics and music of the songs which are more assertive and personal. It is with great intensity that the album is launched on the loops of the Goliath, particularly renamed Dangereuse attraction, and on the Jardin des Etoiles stage at La Ronde
The songs from this second album claim huge success from the public. The first single, Qui Prendra ma place, was first place for many weeks on many billboards (MusiquePlus, BDS, …) and Mentir was also on top of various standings after the first weeks on the radio. Since January 26th, 2008, Dangereuse attraction has become Dangereuse attraction live, the name given to Marie-Mai’s new tour. This show which is very rock and very pop provokes a lot of enthusiasm from the public and from the critics. Album, singles, tour… Dangereuse attraction will definitely give way to the rise of Marie-Mai‘s status as star.
Marie-Mai is extremely sensitive to children’s causes. On November 28th, 2007 she participated in the Unite against AIDS concert for children victims of AIDS presented by UNICEF at the Bell. On January 25th, 2008, Marie-Mai became the Quebec UNICEF ambassador for the Spread the net campaign which helps child victims of malaria.
