Bio

“Music is the language of the soul, and whether it takes the form of jazz, country, classical or metal, it is an expression that connects deeply with who you are and what you feel. When I write, I don’t try to accomplish any specific musical style; I’m trying to tell a story, meditate on a concept, or just cry out from my heart. I want the music and melody to help frame the story and convey emotion.”

Michigan native singer/songwriter Marie Sheldon delivers polished, contemporary pop/rock for anyone desiring honesty and hope; communicating Jesus’ love and desire for us in a personal, approachable way with her unique flair.

From a family rich in musical inheritance Marie grew up playing the piano and singing often in church and other community events. Influences include Amy Grant, Billy Joel, Sarah McLachlan, David Gray, Dido, Plumb, Sister Hazel, The Corrs and Linkin Park…as well as everything in between.

Love, identity, self-confidence and purpose are common themes in Marie’s songs. Why? Simply put, those are the things she struggles with the most. “Honestly, these are issues I’ve dealt with all my life. I’ve made some headway, but I’m still working them out,” she admits with a smile. The bottom line is that Jesus’ love and desire for us is deeply connected to those struggles, and Marie wrestles with that in a personal, approachable way.

Some artists are able to make you relate to their songs; her music makes you feel as if it is your song. “I want anyone to be able to immerse themselves as a listener or sing along as if the song was their own – giving them words they can use, or a cry they can join with. That is what I desire most from the music I listen to.” Fans have shared that they identify with her music and her thoughts: “You feel our pain in your songs.” Another listener said, “One day [a song] just hit me; it was exactly what I needed to hear.”

Marie is joined by Todd Hoek (JGET) and Tim Bushong (The Channelsurfers) for her newest release, "The Cheshire Cat Project" (May 2005), as well as contributing on "In Spite of Me" (2001), both recorded in Bushong’s studio. "Through the Storm" (1998) was completed while studying music at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
