Bio

Marilla Wex is a British-born award-winning actress and comedian. Classically trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in the UK she has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Bristol Old Vic and the National Theatre. In Canada she starred in the Toronto production of The Railway Children and this year will mark her third season appearing at the Grand Theatre, London (ON). In the UK she was a member of the TV sketch comedy group Badly Packed Kebab who were finalists in the BBC Talent Competition and co-wrote and starred in a short silent film which was in the top 10 of the 48 Hour Film Challenge. Her television work in Canada includes a recurring role in Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures and a guest appearance in Murdoch Mysteries as well as numerous commercials. She also co-starred with Kelly Rowan and Rupert Graves in Shaftesbury Films’ movie of the week The Good Times are Killing Me. In 2009 she won a Crystal Award for the best voiceover in a radio commercial in Canada. As a stand-up comedian she was a finalist in the Toronto Comedy Brawl, won the Brantford Comedy Festival Rising Stars contest and has opened for Myq Kaplan, Tom Green and Seán Cullen. Apart from writing stand-up and sketch comedy she has also written a one-woman show, a collection of short stories and is in the middle of a novel.
