"Unsigned Bands: Not Unsigned, Underappreciated"

Move over Chiodos and A Day To Remember; with any luck—and assuming Auto-Tune hasn’t alienated enough people yet—Iselin, NJ-based Marilyn Is Dead will have rooms bursting with dancing hardcore kids with a sweet tooth for synths and soaring vocals. Oh, and don’t forget the Cher-worthy bridges that evolve into growling breakdowns. Hey man, if the shoe fits, might as well throw it to the dogs and see what happens when it gets back. Nothing solid is announced yet from the band but they’ve promised a whole bunch of new stuff.

Bio

In the small town of Iselin, New Jersey, Marilyn Is Dead began in February 2008 and established as a hardcore-electronica group, combining influences such as Enter Shikari, Chiodos, The Devil Wears Prada, and Underoath. Soon after, MID had quickly established themselves among the top local bands of NJ, having competed in the final round of ECI's Battle for Warped Tour, competing until the final round in the Break Contest for the Bamboozle, and winning an online contest to open for Oceana.

By being able to self record their music to near professional quality in lead singer Alex Farkas' basement, MID was able to effectively craft their music during every stage of writing, resulting in greater creativity and experimentation to their sound. They began to incorporate strong and catchy vocal leads along with programming of electro-style beats accompanied by powerful ambient and driving synth leads during breakdowns or epic parts of their songs. MID strives to achieve a definitive sound to differentiate themselves in the scene, and their talent and uniqueness helped establish a promising local and national fan base.

As of December 2008, the band has had management under DJQ Productions & Management, under Jimmy Gregerson (guitarist of I See Stars, Sumerian Records), and Quenton Delaney. In March 2009, they finished self-recording and producing their first EP, which has been uploaded to iTunes, and has provided a substantial residual monthly income for the band.

In July 2009, they were approached for an opportunity to open for Enter Shikari at the School of Rock, in South Hackensack, NJ and played a sold out show. They returned to the School of Rock in the next month to open for We Came as Romans. They then played and won a battle of the bands while opening for Eyes Set to Kill and The Word Alive.

In August 2009, the band toured the Mid West with Castle Grayskull, and accumulated a great deal of fans and buzz in the area. After the tour, MID continuously worked on refining and improving their sound and professionalism, incorporating many new influences such as I See Stars, Broadway, Our Last Night, Of Machines, Attack Attack!, Emarosa, We Came as Romans, and In Fear and Faith. Their recent song "Iowa Dollar" was posted on the band's myspace page the following October, and has since received very positive responses from fans and industry insiders.

The beginning of 2010 looks very promising for MID, with plans for more groundbreaking music, label shopping, and plans for touring. Marilyn Is Dead are hardworking and are willing to take the band to the next level as their career.
