Marina City

Marina City

 Chicago, Illinois, USA
BandRockPop

Dubbed by multi-platinum record producer John Feldmann* as a mix “between Fall Out Boy and Avenged Sevenfold" Fusing heavy instrumentals with keys and catchy three-part harmonies,Marina City is a band who knows how to stand out. They have been named one of the "Top 10 Independent Bands You Need to Know" by MTV & Altmusic, the "Band You Need to See" by Alternative Press for both Warped Tour and Riot Fest 2016, and were declared The 2016 Band Of The Year by Chicago Nightlife Awards .

Biography

Bolstered by a dedicated fanbase of Lost Ones and an impressive roster of accomplishments for a band of their size, Marina City are teetering on the precipice of being the next big breakout. Some may claim that their infectiously dark, commanding choruses evoke theatrics with a shot of hard rock, but the reality is that their music is incomparable. It is this distinctiveness that has earned the six-piece praise from the likes of MTV News, Alternative Press, Rock Sound, the title of 2016 Band Of The Year by the Chicago Nightlife Awards, and most recently, a sold-out EP release show at The Wire.

After beating out nearly 10,000 bands to win the Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands at the latter end of 2015, Marina City were thrown into working with legendary producer John Feldmann (Blink-182, Panic! At The Disco, 5 Seconds Of Summer)—and then went on to work with Craig Owens (Chiodos, BadxChannels) for their 2016 EP, Lost =/= Alone. The grand prize also gave them the opportunity to spend two weeks on Vans Warped Tour. Their newest effort, an enduring EP called Terminal (released Aug 11, 2017), is a trust fall into a new era of the band. After a harrowing year spent pouring their souls into songs they just weren’t happy with, all while spending sleepless nights touring across the country, Marina City finally found themselves and put every inch of it into an EP that finally defines them as a band in their most genuine form.

Terminal’s first single, “Dreamers Never Die,” is a triumphant rallying cry for the band’s next generation. Ryan Argast’s soaring, confident vocals swell in the chorus with the trademark three-part-harmony accompaniment from the voices of Brian Johnson and Matthew Gaudiano, who also impress on guitar and keys respectively. Drummer Eric Somers-Urrea and bassist Aaron Heiy anchor every track on Terminal with the power and assurance of a marching band, while Todor Birindijiev’s lead guitar riffs sail melodically over the strong, steady songs throughout the EP.  Terminal is a great leap forward for Marina City, who are weaving the glowing synths of top 40 pop into a post-hardcore foundation more confidently than ever, and the band’s Lost Ones will be hanging on Marina City’s every note during their shows in support of Terminal.

When Friends Become Enemies

When Friends Become Enemies
Lyrics By: Ryan Alan Argast
Music By: Marina City

Oh this is long overdue
To write a song about you
Don’t you think that I’ve left you in the spotlight
And don’t you think that I’ll let this flag wave white

So I guess your ignorance is bliss
‘Cause if you opened your eyes
You’re the last thing that I miss

I swear to God I’ll pull this trigger on you
My tongue can spit words that will prove
You got not one bone in your body
To impress anyone but your pity
I’ve not forgot the words that you’ve said
I’ve buried them in my own head
I’ll watch them grow to things that
I won’t let go

Oh I know you know me better than myself
‘Cause I never knew I tried to be anybody else
Next time my name goes past those crooked teeth
Make sure you’re lying right in front of me

So I guess I’m nothing without you
If that is true
You’re nothing without me

I swear to God I’ll pull this trigger on you
My tongue can spit words that will prove
You got not one bone in your body
To impress anyone but your pity
I’ve not forgot the words that you’ve said
I’ve buried them in my own head
I’ll watch them grow to things that
I won’t let go

This is where friends become enemies

I swear to God I’ll pull this trigger on you
My tongue can spit words that will prove
You got not one bone in your body
To impress anyone but your pity
I’ve not forgot the words that you’ve said
I’ve buried them in my own head
I’ll watch them grow to things that
I won’t let go

Goodbye Ilene

Goodbye Ilene
Lyrics By: Ryan Alan Argast and Brian Johnson
Music By: Marina City

I’ve got you tied up in my words
I’ve got plenty of them
But not one I could keep
Now I’m tied up in your eyes
They reassure me
I’m losing you
I’ve lost you

Come back Ilene
I’ve been waiting patiently for you to realize
That you miss my company
Take a chance
Cause there’s no point waiting
“I’m moving on” is all I hear you saying
Why can’t life be fair?

Home is where the heart is
Who am I kidding?
If you not here
I’m just fibbing
This smile just hides all the frowns

I got portraits of you on my wall
I’ve been singing songs saying its my fault
I swear I could do this on my own

I still feel the way I did back then
It’s just complicated
I’m doing the best that I can
And I swear I’m a changed man

Come back Ilene
I’ve been waiting patiently for you to realize
That you miss my company
Take a chance
Cause there’s no point waiting
“I’m moving on” is all I hear you saying
Why can’t life be fair?

Well I’ve lost all motivation now
Scream out about my mistakes
And how you meant the world and more to me
(You meant the world to me)
Well I’m sorry about all I’ve ever said
I grantee it’s all misinterpreted
I just hope your listening

Goodbye Ilene
I’ve been waiting patiently for you to realize
That you miss my company
Take a chance
Cause there’s no point waiting
“I’m moving on” is all you hear me saying
Why can’t life be fair?

Whoa oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh ohhhhh

Whoa oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh oh
Whoa oh oh ohhhh

Why can’t life be fair?

Fly Away

Fly Away
Lyrics By: Ryan Alan Argast
Music By: Marina City

I know it’s hard to keep on breathing
I know looks can be deceiving
Your broken heart
It’s still bleeding

I know you don’t want to fall in love again
Girl, just give it one more chance
I’m a different kid
Than the one back then

Let’s fly away
Let this beat grow us wings
Let’s fly away
We will never ever come down
We’ll sing till our lungs cave in
We’ll dance until the world ends
Let’s fly away

Just dance
To the rhythm of this drum
I’ll keep you safe under my arms
Just you and me till the break of dawn

Oh he
Won’t ever find us here
I know it’s hard to believe
I’ll take you to a world you’ve never seen

Let’s fly away
Let this beat grow us wings
Let’s fly away
We will never ever come down
We’ll sing till our lungs cave in
We’ll dance until the world ends
Let’s fly away

Raise your glass way up high
Hello today
Kiss yesterday goodbye
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

Raise your glass way up high
Hello today
Kiss yesterday goodbye
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

Let’s fly away
Let this beat grow us wings
Let’s fly away
We will never ever come down
We’ll sing till our lungs cave in
We’ll dance until the world ends
Let’s fly away

Keep Your Faith In Me

Keep Your Faith In Me
Lyrics By: Ryan Alan Argast
Music By: Marina City

You may call me a dreamer (Ohhhh ohh oh)
Though you know that all to well
You may call me a believer (ohhhh ohh oh)
Even though it’s hard to tell

‘Cause I know I’m fading
And I know I’m losing everything you loved about me

But don’t let me go
I can build the pieces
of everything I broke
Just hold it against me
I never said this would be easy
But I’ll try
oh I’ll try
yes believe me
Keep your faith in me

No one will ever understand (ohhhh ohh oh)
The feeling of losing things right in the palm of your hand
Now I know what it’s like to be a man (ohhhh ohh oh)
It’s when you lose your legs you still fight to stand

‘Cause I know I’m fading
And I know I’m losing everything you loved about me

But don’t let me go
I can build the pieces
of everything I broke
Just hold it against me
I never said this would be easy
But I’ll try
oh I’ll try
yes believe me
Keep your faith in me

Down down
It breaks me down down
It breaks me down down
It breaks me down down

But don’t let me go
I can build the pieces
of everything I broke
Just hold it against me (Just hold it against me)
I never said this would be easy
But I’ll try
oh I’ll try
yes believe me
Keep your faith in me

My Last Chance

Written By: Marina City

My Last Chance
Lyrics By: Ryan Alan Argast
Music By: Marina City

It was the look in his eyes that I couldn’t forget
The way the blood rushed to his head
He knows he’s gotta give it all
Give it all right now

Oh he’s shaking and breaking down to his knees
He lost all control in his hands and his feet
He knows he’s gotta give it all
Give it all right now

He screams
Whoa ohhh oh oh oh this could be my last chance
This could be my last chance
Whoa ohhhh oh oh oh this could be my last chance
This could by my last chance

This is the reason why he killed everything he ever had
this is the reason why he leaves his luck up to chance
to many prayers to a God he half believes in
To many promises to people who don’t believe him
He holds their necks up to truth
choking them black and blue

Whoa ohhh oh oh oh this could be my last chance
This could be my last chance
Whoa ohhhh oh oh oh this could be my last chance
This could by my last chance

So let this crowd get off their feet
Let them feel my demons in me
I’ll wear my heart on my sleeve
So you can feel the pounding right in me

Let this crowd yell and roar
Let them feel my own war
All my life this is what I’ve been fighting for
For the chance of you needing more

Whoa ohhh oh oh oh this could be my last chance
This could be my last chance
Whoa ohhhh oh oh oh this could be my last chance
This could by my last chance

Not All Who Wander Are Lost

Written By: Marina City

Not All Who Wander Are Lost
Lyrics By: Ryan Alan Argast
Music By: Marina City

With a raise of hands
Who’s lost who they are
With a show of voice
let me hear who you are (Hey)

‘Cause I know the feeling
When you stop believing In all of the things that make you who you are today

So when the world is crushing down on your bare chest
When the tables have turned and you’re the only one with nothing left
When it feels like anchors hold your feet to the ground
And lies are the only things that people ever talk about
Just sing

When minutes turn to hours
I’m too much of a coward to say
I’m here
I wish I can stand on my own two feet
But I live my life in fear

‘Cause I know the feeling
When you stop believing In all of the things that make you who you are today

So when the world is crushing down on your bare chest
When the tables have turned and you’re the only one with nothing left
When it feels like anchors hold your feet to the ground
And lies are the only things that people ever talk about
Just sing

Just sing
Just sing

Oh no oh no oh no oh no I’m not going down this time
oh no oh no oh no oh no I’m not going down this time

So when the world is crushing down on your bare chest
When the tables have turned and you’re the only one with nothing left
Just sing

Oh no oh no oh no oh no I’m not going down this time
oh no oh no oh no oh no I’m not going down this time

Oh Chicago

Written By: Marina City

Oh Chicago
Lyrics By: Ryan Alan Argast
Music By: Marina City

Oh Chicago
Can you illuminate the skylines?
And let all the liars come down to your core?
‘Cause I’m still debating
Whether if I should be waiting
For something more
Or should I just run back to your heart?

‘Cause it’s three A.M on a Monday morning
And I’m still looking for something that will never be found
That will never be found
And the truth just holds cobwebs
And dreams only come true when your dead
And these smiles just hide the frowns

‘Cause I only write tragedies
That’s what I do best
And these words just yell and scream
I must love to be depressed
Oh no

I’m Alright, I’m just okay
Wishing on shooting stars have gotten old anyways
And I just got one more prayer left in me
I won’t use it on my death bed
I’ll die so you can stop crying

Oh, its winter
And it’s as cold as where my heart would be
If it was there that would be saying the least
‘Cause I’m just a poet that makes a promise
And then writes songs on how he couldn’t keep it
On how he couldn’t keep it

So don’t you worry about me
I’m a musician, I erase my problems with a melody
and I’ve just tried to live in my dreams
so I don’t know a damn thing about reality
Oh no

I’m Alright, I’m just okay
Wishing on shooting stars have gotten old anyways
And I just got one more prayer left in me
I won’t use it on my death bed
I’ll die so you could stop crying

I stand here alone
With a beating heart in my chest
And this clock ticks and tocks to my dying breath
And I hope it finally comes my ending time
So I could finally say that I timed something right
(I’m Alright)
All I wanted was accomplishment
To show you I was different, I was something, I was better than nothing at all
(I’m just okay)
I’ve never seen an angel but I swear they look like you
So breath taking
God, I love you
(Wishing on shooting stars have gotten old anyways)
Please don’t mistaken me with the man with the words
‘Cause you’re a swan
And I’m a hummingbird
(I’m alright)
And I’ve been putting myself down since I was a kid
and it seems that’s all I ever did

I stand here alone
With a beating heart in my chest
And this clock ticks and tocks to my dying breath
And I hope it finally comes my ending time
So I could finally say that I timed something right
(I’m Alright)
All I wanted was accomplishment
To show you I was different, I was something, I was better than nothing at all
(I’m just okay)
I’ve never seen an angel but I swear they look like you
So breath taking
God, I love you
(Wishing on shooting stars have gotten old anyways)
Please don’t mistaken me with the man with the words
‘Cause you’re a swan
And I’m a hummingbird
(I’m alright)
And I’ve been putting myself down since I was a kid
and it seems that’s all I ever did

Falling Up & Breaking Down

Written By: Marina City

Ohhhh Please stop the music
I swear I might lose it
Gun to my head and I promise I’ll use it
Said it once, said it twice, say it once again
Dreams only come true when you are dead
And it sure as hell feels like it when I just can’t breathe
Tied up my luck to an anchor in the sea
Best part of believe is the L-I and E
Faith is the only thing that I just can’t keep

Tell me everything
Tell me everything
Tell me everything will be okay
Tell me everything
Tell me everything
Tell me everything will be okay
Tell me everything
(Tell me)
Tell me everything
(everything)
Tell me everything will be okay
Will be Oh!

As I fall right to the ground
I hope I never let you down
Cause I prayed everyday
That you would be proud of me

You want to see me bleed? (Hey!)
Well listen to the words I sing
Cause I rip my heart open on this paper on this desk
just to lift the world right off of my chest (Ooooooooooooo)
Step one you gotta lose everything that you had
Step two you gotta want it all right back
Step three you gotta fight until you’ve died
Only when you dream do you feel so alive

Tell me everything
Tell me everything
Tell me everything will be okay
Tell me everything
Tell me everything
Tell me everything will be okay
Tell me everything
(Tell me)
Tell me everything
(everything)
Tell me everything will be okay
Will be Oh!

As I fall right to the ground
I hope I never let you down
Cause I prayed everyday
That you would be proud of me

Oh proud of me
Oh proud of me
Oh proud of me
Oh proud of me

As I fall right to the ground
I hope I never let you down
Cause I prayed everyday
That you would be proud of me

As I fall right to the ground
I hope I never let you down
Cause I prayed everyday
That you would be proud of me

As I fall right to the ground
I hope I never let you down
Cause I prayed everyday
That you would be proud of me

Alley Capital Masquerade

Written By: Marina City

She says boy you're just the one that I need
the only one that will sacrifice for the dream
Oh Boy I saw you from across the room
Oh you got the one thing that will make me move

She says put your trust in me
I'll make your dreams a reality

Her tongue was sharp as a knife
But her talk was cheap so I bought every line
Her face lives behind a mask
Hiding all the little secrets that she has

She says put your trust in me
I'll make that dream a reality

Did you come here to watch me fall apart?
Well I'm sorry to disappoint you
I've been broken from the start
So wipe off the grin from ear to ear
'Cause baby there's only up from here
And this time
I'm not going home with out a fight

She dances on my insecurities
Struts on top of everything that I believe
But my hands hang on her hips
While her hands are in my back pocket

You think this war has won
I haven't loaded my guns
With words for bullets that will expose you to everyone
How you're on top of the city
How you live freely
But don't you worry
I'll drag you to this hell you made me

The Rise and Fall of You

Written By: Marina City

If it was up to me
You wouldn't have another drink
You wouldn't be drowning in your own misery
If these walls could talk
They'd ask to not spin at all
Maybe just this once you could stand up straight and tall

You said this wouldn't happen again

Just stand on your two feet
Just keep it together
And make me believe
That you can
Stand on your two feet
Just keep it together
And make me believe
That you're not gone

If those loose lips would sink
Just like your dignity
Then we wouldn't mind your company
You're tongue is so tied up
You actually believe your pretty little lies
You're so hung up on your self I hope that rope is tied tight

Do you remember who you are?
Just stay with me
Stay with me now
When a bottle comes to those lips you lose who you are
Just stay with
Stay with me now
The next time you fall I'll walk over you

The Lost Boys

Written By: Marina City

I'm not scared of monsters anymore
I'm scared of just growing old
It fills my closet to the brim
With my oldest skeletons
And creates a headstone for my imagination

I'm not growing up (x3)

I wanna know what it's like
to keep my head above the clouds
I wanna know what it's like
When your fear of heights won't pull me down

They say grow up you're not that young
(It's not helping, helping)
You have a million chances but you'll lose everyone (Oh!)
You gotta wake up from this dream
And face the reality
I gotta put the music behind me

Maybe I'm broken but I was never built like you (x4)
(sigh)

Letters to an Old Friend

Written By: Marina City

Suddenly I've become the monster that everyone warned you about
I got words as sharp as wolves teeth
They'll cut so deep they'll make you bleed
So step back, back, back before I strike all over again
I'll build you up a back bone
And the truth will stab you where it hurts the most

'Cause I don't think I'd hesitate

Over and Over again
I've let you down
I was not much of a friend
But you kept me around
I took every bullet I could for you
I did all that I could do
So if you wish I was dead
Don't forget the things that I did

Suddenly I'm not the man I said I'd be
I can't believe that you didn't think we were family
Because I didn't ruin your life
If you wanted it more you would stand up and fight
Show us how we made a mistake
and how you wouldn't have walked away

'Cause I don't think you'd hesitate

Over and Over again
I've let you down
I still wish you the best
And I wish that you never left
But I'm over it
And I'm over you now

I'll Sing You to Sleep

Written By: Marina City

I stumble when I speak
I always talk before I think
And I tell stories you know you can't believe
I was there when he left
I've been there when you cried
And I'm the only one who never said goodbye

I'll Sing You To Sleep
Hoping that you find the one you need
I'll Sing You To Sleep
Hoping that you're dreaming about me
Cause someday you''ll find I was here the whole time

You could hold me true to my words
You give me faith that beats like a drum
And you hit my heart harder than anyone
I just wish that you could see
The way your smile looks to me
Cause I swear it could light up my darkest nights

Oh I can't no I can't keep coming back
To the place where I have been
For the last few years of my life
It ends tonight
If there was just one thing that I would want you to know
I would never no never let you go
I'll keep you here by my side
You'll be forever mine

You'll Sing Me To Sleep
Knowing that you found the one you need
You'll Sing Me to Sleep
Knowing that we were meant to be
