BandWorldFolk

Percussive Latin guitar; two distinct voices; heritage touching Cape Verde, Argentina, Egypt and Italy - Marinda + Solari confound the borders of culture and cliche; comparisons to Lhasa de Sela, Gilberto Gil and Nouvelle Vague common; often accompanied by renowned Cuban bassist Yoser Rodriguez.

Biography

With a sound that doesn't fit into established genre, hybridity might be the defining expression of Marinda + Solari. Their songwriting collaboration began in 2007 attempting to revive the intricate and satirical songwriting traditions of Jazz, Chanson, Samba and Tango.
A sort of modern reworking of Latin and American musical traditions, their debut EP Cup of Tea won ‘Best Jazz’ at the Toronto Independent Music Awards 2008.
Marinda + Solari independently co-produced their first full-length album Motif (2010). Following brief tours in Europe (France and Switzerland) joined by the renowned Cuban upright bassist Yoser Rodriguez, they currently reside in Montreal.
