Bio
Mário Moita began singing FADO at the age of 7. He studied Piano at Évora Music School, and has a degree in Engineering from Évora University. Living in Reguengos de Monsaraz (land of the composer, Dr. Alberto Janes, who wrote many FADOS for Amália Rodrigues), provided him a close contact with the pianist Fortunato Murteira who played FADO with the piano in the 40s, 50s and 60s.
Before he passed away, he gave Mário a vast collection of old FADO scores. Mário Moita continues that old tradition dating from 1870 when FADO went up to the palaces for the delight of the high classes (*), mixing Alentejo roots and the technique of Bello Canto. The result is a romantic sound of FADO and piano with a melodic voice worked by lyrical techniques.

In the last few years, Mario has taken the unmistakably Portuguese sound of FADO music to other regions of the world to share a little of the Portuguese culture to areas that have never been exposed to it before.
In April 2007, Mario Moita released the only cd/book available in Portugal about FADO and the piano history.
