"Marion Halliday - Rings Around Saturn"

This timeless tune [Rings Around Saturn] from Marion Halliday is beautifully sung and beautifully captured.. . It would be very easy to make comparisons to both The Staves and First Aid Kit at this point, but the truth is. . .  Marion doesn’t sound like either of them...It’s a delicate and thoughtful piece that showcases a tremendous, characterful vocal.   - Stereo Stickman

"Indie Pulse Interviews - Marion Halliday"

Marion Halliday shows her talents in a traditional way, taking cues from her predecessors like Peter, Paul and Mary, Pete Seeger, Odetta, Joan Baez and others that sought to use their musical talents to convey and communicate a new way of thinking, to bring a message of hope to those that felt hopeless. As in her song “Thoughts and Prayers” she tackles the highly emotionally charged issue of the unnecessary loss of life happening in our world, but not by pointing a finger of blame, but by extending her hand in love and understanding, her songs are miraculous, her voice is a new beacon of peace in this troublesome time.  - Indie Pulse

Bio

2019 was a great year for Marion - in July 2019 she released her debut solo album Rings Around Saturn  and in its first month, both the album and Marion (as artist) were ranked #3 on the US/International Folk DJ charts (data compiled by Folk Alliance International).  Even though the album was only released in the latter half of 2019, the album was in the listing of 'Top Albums for 2019' compiled by FAI.  In November of 2019, Marion also appeared in a juried 'Semi-Formal Showcase' at the invitation of the  Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference in Stamford Connecticut.  Marion's music has been played on over 70 public and community radio stations across the US and the globe.

In 2018, Marion was named "One of the Ones to Watch" by the Nashville Songwriters' Association International. Several singles she released that Spring were also selected by DJs for their ‘end of year/best of’ picks shows. In November 2018, Marion was chosen by Ron Olesko of WFDU to be a featured performer at the highly-regarded NERFA (Northeast Regional Folk Alliance) Suzi Wollenberg Folk DJ Showcase.  Marion was a finalist in the Best of Philly Live competition and won honors as runner up in the Folk/Country Category.

Marion has found great inspiration in her songwriting in the rich 400-year history of Philadelphia, crafting for the band a number of modern folks songs based on historical landmarks such as the Statue to the Lenape in Wissahickon Park, Eastern State Penitentiary, Laurel Hill Cemetery and Lemon Hill.  She and her band also plays various covers  ranging from the 70s through the 2002 and a broad range of tastes (Stephen Stills, Tears for Fears, Dolly Parton).

Marion plays solo and in various configurations but most often with the band she formed in 2017 to feature her original music, Trickster Sister. Trickster Sister is comprised, at its core, of Marion (guitar, vocals, songwriting), her sister, Jane Halliday (violin, vocals), plus their sister-in-music, Donna Bostock (bass/percussion, vocals). When performing as/with her band 'Trickster Sister' Marion may include some variation of the trio configuration (e.g., it can be a duo or a larger configuration) depending on player availability (members live in different states) and venue requirements.
