"Marion Grace Wins Best Pop Rock for 2011!"

Marion Grace have a knack for sounding familiar even if you've never heard them before. Not in that cookie-cutter FM way, but haunting, nostalgic, triggering personal memories you thought you'd buried. The funny thing is, people don't realize just how original a band have to be to pull that off. In their four years of existence, this lush quartet have grown to become one of Portland's very best, borrowing from a wealth of styles (folk, blues, and soul are just a few) without being pigeonholed by any of them. Their infectious sound is anchored by a pop aesthetic that has seduced countless Portlanders, and they hit just enough dark and urgent notes to keep things interesting. Professionally, Marion Grace had a busy year. They entranced live audiences near and far with songs from Lying Down Looking Up, their gorgeous and sprawling debut, and released Unleashed, a live documentary film by Acadia Recording Company's Marc Bartholomew. There's a lot to be excited about here. Look for them to keep up the good work, and hit us with another delicious disc before long - Portland Phoenix

Bio

In 2010, Marion Grace released their debut album “Lying Down Looking Up” to a sold out crowd at the highly esteemed Port City Music Hall.

“As debut albums go, it’s rare to find one as textured and fully realized as what Marion Grace have put together in the 10 song Lying Down Looking Up, an arty, smart, folk-rock affair that shows songwriting creativity with some genuinely great ideas” - Sam Pfieffle, Portland Phoenix.

The vision of Marion Grace was born on a highway heading north out of New York City in 2004. At that time, lead singer/writer Ralph Marion Graceffa, was embarking on a new life with one sole possession –a suitcase full of songs. In 2006, Ralph was introduced to Aaron Cloutier (drummer) and Clara Junken (singer/lead guitar). This core group formed the original line up for Marion Grace. Josh Prescott (Bass) was added to the lineup in 2010.

Marion Grace’s unique sound combines elements of rock and popular music with the truth of folk and the swagger of the blues. The emotionally charged story lines are driven by Ralph and Clara’s voices while cello, horns, and keys often accompany the core ensemble .

Based out of Portland, Marion Grace is considered one of the most promising new acts coming out of Maine . Most recently, Marion Grace won Best Pop Rock Act for 2011 by the Portland Phoenix. They were also nominated for Best 2011 Live Act.

"It has been a cranked 2010 for Ralph Graceffa and his ramblin'-on outfit Marion Grace. Lighting the fuse was dropping the immensely buzz-worthy debut, "Lying Down Looking Up," earlier this year, but the dynamite may not have even gone off yet. - Mike Olcott, Portland Press Herald.
