He was taught by some of Mississippi's top music educators and each one gave Smith valuable lessons that still live within him today. In high school, Smith arranged and sequenced instrumental tracks, for performers participating in local talent shows in southwest Mississippi.

After high school, Smith entered the military and completely surrendered his life to Christ. During his college career he wrote, arranged and sequenced songs for the college stage band. His work with the stage band gained him statewide recognition. Smith has received numerous awards and certificates in the area of music.

Smith took his love and passion for God's music and began to teach others. He taught music at New Life Christian Academy in Miami, Florida, and at Kennedy Elementary and Higgins Middle School in McComb, Mississippi.
