The Journal of a Musician
The summer of 2005
He was watching the sun setting over the mountains from a train window into a silvery, mirror of a lake in the city of Interlaken in Switzerland. Accompanying was music in his earphones. With the music, with the landscape came inspiration. Suddenly he wanted to go home, back to his home in Lansing, back to the corner of his room where his piano and guitar stood.
The fall of 2005
His band dispersed after so much success over the past year. It began with regular daytime rotation on the student radio station in East Lansing, the Impact 88.9 WDBM, then to the sale of over 1000 copies of their self-titled EP, on to the bookings of many shows including opening for major label and independent label bands such as Phantom Planet, Sleeping At Last, Ryan Cabrera, The Spill Canvas, and Calliope, and then to the honor of placing in the top 15 bands in the 2004 DiscMakers independent music showcase.
The fall of 2002
He met for the first time Travis Shaver, a long time resident of the Lansing area, in a dorm room in his first year of college at Michigan State University. He and Travis began writing, recording, and playing music upstairs in Travis’ Lansing house. They had started something that would make them happy for the rest of their lives.
Today
Travis Shaver and Mark Colwell have been playing music together for over 4 years, looking forward to the next step, to bigger things, bigger places, to a bigger audience. The evolution of their music has been exponential, always improving their sound, their skills, and their musicianship. They have come a long way from the stuffy house on the streets of Lansing and are ready for everything that will come in the future.
