With soulful vocals and impassioned lyrics, Markeisha Ensley is a dynamic singer and songwriter. Her music is organic and comes straight from the soul, encompassing the full spectrum, from love and spirituality to joy and pain. She has a voice that embodies honey and velvet, the deep-felt low notes of Gladys Knight and the spiraling high notes of early Whitney Houston, but the sound is all Markeisha’s. The most striking thing about the NYC based singer/songwriter, however, is her soul. While listening to the words of her heart, enveloped by her depth and warmth, one is greatly touched. Markeisha graces the stage with a powerful presence and invites the audience to come along for an unforgettable ride.

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska and raised in Colorado, Markeisha’s love affair with music began in the church. She joined the church choir at age seven and fell in love with the heartfelt richness of gospel music. She also discovered acting and theatre, particularly the musical Annie, and proceeded to parade around the house belting out the show’s famous tunes. Markeisha continued singing, performing in various talent shows around the area throughout middle and high schools.

Following high school graduation, the singer left Colorado and moved to New York City to attend New York University. It was in the school’s practice rooms where she first discovered her passion for songwriting. Refining her skills as a pianist, she spent many nights in the small refuge of a windowless room occupied by a lone piano. Markeisha later graduated NYU cum laude with a degree in music business and spent the next year and a half working in publicity at Elektra Records. Still harboring a desire to sing and act, she later received her Actor’s Equity card and performed in various musicals throughout New York. She was nominated for an AUDELCO award for her lead role in the musical Jamaica in 2001. She then further developed her acting techniques at the prestigious Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York City.

In 2006, Markeisha released her first full length CD, Ready, which she co-produced with Adam Parness for Parns Music Productions. The soulful disc, with its hopeful message about love and life includes nine tracks penned by the singer. Two songs from that album, “The Strangest Thing” and “Loving You”, received Honorable Mentions in the 2006 Billboard World Songwriting Contest. She was recently featured as a Spotlight Member with the Songwriter's Guild of America and is an ASCAPlus Award winner. Markeisha has performed around New York City in such notable venues as The Bitter End, The Cutting Room, and Rockwood Music Hall.

She is a member of Songwriter's Hall of Fame/NAPM where she studied songwriting under Lorraine Ferro. Markeisha also performs with Life Beat’s Hearts and Voices program, the music industry’s organization fighting AIDS. She is currently writing new material for her second album.

Verse 1
I’m just wasting the day away
Thinking on your lips, your eyes, your pretty face
What is this crazy state I’m in
Won’t you take me there please once again
Cause there’s a secret that we both share
A desire that brings on this love affair
Breaking through what inhibitions that we share
So I’ll reminisce on your precious kiss

Chorus
It seems the strangest thing has happened to me
Awakened, I have walked right into a dream
It must be some kind of crazy serendipity
Bringing us together it’s now or never

Verse 2
So let’s not complicate this anymore
You should know by now I am yours
Let’s get this started what you waiting for
Saw it in your eyes what you tried to disguise
That this is not some ordinary thing
You can’t deny this feeling, all the chemistry
We’ll get it together, sugar, finally
And look to uncover this love we’ve discovered

Chorus
It seems the strangest thing has happened to me
Awakened, I have walked right into a dream
It must be some kind of crazy serendipity
Bringing us together it’s now or never

Bridge
Well, this journey’s done and I’ve come to my destination
I see now my fortune won was your inspiration
You’ve shown me how to be still
Life moves on as it will
There’s no explanation for the situation
But oh, the sensation I feel when I’m with you

Chorus
It seems the strangest thing has happened to me
Awakened, I have walked right into a dream
It must be some kind of crazy serendipity
Bringing us together it’s now or never

Verse 1
It seems to me that it’s plainly clear
I’m wandering around with all these pointless fears
So why can’t I just let it go
It’s the hardest thing to do
To learn to love and to trust in you

When I gave so much I assumed you’d take
Expecting less was my first mistake
But you took the reins
Satisfied my every need and made a way
This love’s not in vain

Chorus
Won’t you take my hand and draw me near
I feel so at rest when love appears
I will just fall away and drink you in
I am ready for this fragile heart to mend
I am ready for the love to begin

Verse 2
I’ve held so much but never owned a thing
So I’m anxious now of the possibility
That you might move this heart
That you might come and change it all
Yet still I know in your arms I am home

Chorus
Won’t you take my hand and draw me near
I feel so at rest when love appears
I will just fall away and drink you in
I am ready for this fragile heart to mend
I am ready for the love to begin

Bridge
Heaven is just a prayer away
If I’d only trust and have some faith
And then I will see how I am everything
Once your love takes a hold

Chorus
Won’t you take my hand and draw me near
I feel so at rest when love appears
I will just fall away and drink you in
I am ready for this fragile heart to mend
I am ready for the love to begin

Verse 1
Soft as silk brushing along my thigh
Smooth like wine tickling my tongue
As the night unwinds
That’s what it’s like

Chorus
Loving You
Ooh, loving you
My world simply exists just to love you

Verse 2
Wet upon my lips, a sweet tender kiss
Smooth against my skin, flushed from the heat
The heat rising within
That’s what it’s like

Chorus
Loving You
Ooh, loving you
My world simply exists just to love you

Bridge
Same as the moonlight washes over the night
It surrounds my body, fills me all up inside
Till I come undone
Baby that’s what it’s like

Verse 3
Trembling beneath as it overtakes me
Captures my breath, conscious of only
The warmth in your caress
That’s what it’s like

Chorus
Loving You
Ooh, loving you
My world simply exists just to love you

Verse 1
Remembering the day
You said, “Baby, it’s okay."
That’s when love walked through the door
With words not heard before
You’re all I’ve wanted and more

Chorus
Look what you’ve done to me
You take my breath away
Every time I see your face
I’m amazed
I never thought you’d know my heart so very well
My angel, I can’t deny the truth
I could spend my life loving you

Verse 2
Good morning with a smile
Can we stay here for a while
There’s no place I’d rather be
It’s like we’re drifting through a dream
With you I am complete

Chorus
Look what you’ve done to me
You take my breath away
Every time I see your face
I’m amazed
I never thought you’d know my heart so very well
My angel, I won’t deny the truth
I could spend my life loving you

Bridge
You’re my escape from this day-to-day
I am leveled by the strength of your gaze
Simply, you’ve come to mean everything to me
I can’t believe

Chorus
What you’ve done to me
You take my breath away
Every time I see your face
I’m amazed
I never thought you’d know my heart so very well
My angel, I know the truth
I will spend my life loving you

Can’t Stop This Feeling

Verse 1
At a loss for words
Trying to make my way towards the light
And get through this night
But the ground beneath me
Feels so unsteady
Can this be right

Chorus
I can’t stop this feeling
Can’t prevent my heart from revealing
Everything inside I’ve tried to deny
I must go on believing
Realize this world is deceiving
Everything I feel has got to be real

Verse 2
I’ve found the perfect fit
But can I handle it
And do this right
Full of peace within
Now that I’m listening to what’s inside

Chorus
I can’t stop this feeling
Can’t prevent my heart from revealing
Everything inside I’ve tried to deny
I must go on believing
Realize this world is deceiving
Everything I feel has got to be real

Bridge
I’m reaching out to you
Can’t you see how I have changed
There is no doubt
I am lost without the love I’m been dreaming of
So I will follow through on what holds true
You are all that’s precious to me

Chorus
I can’t stop this feeling
Can’t prevent my heart from revealing
Everything inside I’ve tried to deny
I must go on believing
Realize this world is deceiving
Everything I feel has got to be real
