The Wren

Written By: Mark Frederick Fisher

The Wren

Once a small songbird flew into my wood, a wren seeking shelter and shade
Careful to cover the tracks that I laid, no promises offered, no promises made

And me, being the crow that I am, with thoughts of a murder and the song of a wren
No place in my nest for a fine feathered friend, I stole what I wanted and frieghtened her out of the glen.

A raven is black and as bold as a thunderclap, and there is no end to my greed
But she was as soft as the silk from a milkweed. Adrift on the warm summer breeze that had carried her seed.

And me, being the crow that I am, with thoughts of a murder and the song of a wren
No place in my nest for a fine feathered friend, I stole what I wanted and frieghtened her out of the glen.

A bird in hand is as good as a memory but harder to hold
A bird on the wing can be captured and kept like a picture, and never grow old.

Now I’m an old crow by the side of the road now I know what I didn’t know then.
Without a home or a flock or a friend, alone as I drift and I dream of the wren.

Let me remember This

Written By: Mark Frederick Fisher

Please let me remember this 10/06

Christmas eve around the tree
The living room sky high with gifts
Sitting on my mothers knee
Surrounded by my family

The garland and the colored lights
We laughed and sang Oh Holy Night
Things that make a life worthwhile
The memories can’t help but make me smile

Please let me remember this
Keep it close so I can always find it
These are days That I will miss
I pray I never need to be reminded
Please- let me- remember this

The scent of spring was in the air
The grass was flat beneath the snow pack
Tender blossoms on the trees
When she appeared and spoke to me

I fell in love how could I know
One of those defining moments
As my universe compressed
The future sprang to life within my chest

Please let me remember this
Keep it close so I can always find it
These are days That I will miss
I pray I never need to be reminded
Please- let me- remember this

Everyone goes on about the future as if it’s the place to be
What’s the harm revisiting the old times if it brings you peace

Sitting in our sunny room
Early morning, house was cool
Breakfast warming on the range
Nothing out of place or strange

Our baby daughter playing there
The light so true, her so fair
Surrounded by the mystery
I’m part of her and she so much of me

Heavens Gate

Written By: Mark Frederick Fisher

Heavens Gate

Hey World what you gonna gain from killing your own kind
Do you think that all the hurt and pain is gonna change somebody’s mind

hey world who you gonna blame when you tell this story to your kid
you know we’ll never make a change doing unto others as they did

oh wouldn’t it be great
if everyone stood up and put an end to hate
we can stop it’s not too late
so we can meet as one at heavens gate

hey world why you gotta go on sticking to your guns
when esacalation’s all we know and we think that were the righteous ones

hey world how you gonna live when you always have to watch your back
don’t you think it’s time to forgive instead of planning out the next attack

oh wouldn’t it be great
if everyone stood up and put an end to hate
we can stop it’s not too late
so we can meet as one at heavens gate

world always gonna turn and it’s all you ever have to do
and man we’ve got a lot to learn if we’re ever going to get a clue

hey world how you gonna sleep and don’t you find it rather odd
that what you sow is what you reap and you do it in the name of god

hey world what you gonna do when it’s right in your back yard
it all comes down to me and you tell me why should freedom be so hard

oh wouldn’t it be great
if everyone stood up and put an end to hate
we can stop it’s not too late
so we can meet as one at heavens gate

Tell me something good Tell me something good

Tell me something good Tell me something good
