Mark McDermott's State of Wail

Mark McDermott's State of Wail

Electric and acoustic rock with distinct jazz, latin, and blues influences.

I love music. Throughout my life, music has been one constant that's always been there and has never let me down.

I started out playing mandolin, clarinet, and then flute. At the age of 10 our school music teacher brought an acoustic guitar into class and started playing it. I was hooked immediately. I got a $30 Harmony Stella guitar for my 10th birthday and have been a guitar nut ever since.

Early influences were Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, and Carlos Santana. Later my tastes branched out a bit to Al Dimeola, Allan Holdsworth, Gary Moore, and Todd Rundgren.

Nowadays I still listen to all of those great players as well as the new lineup of guitar wonders including Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, and Johnny A. I really admire the technical skills and new sounds that these guys have brought to the table.

I've been influenced by nearly everything I've ever heard so please accept my apology if you're not specifically mentioned here.
