Biography

Mark Midland is one of the most promising and original young songwriters to emerge in the Texas music scene. He is currently finishing up his first full tilt studio production and it is going to be really good!! He is looking at a late summer 2007 completion. Stay tuned for album release date, new tunes ( he promises ) and new show dates!!!! This 31 year old husband and father has spent the past 5 years writing songs in airplanes, airport terminals, traffic jams and yes, he has written the occasional tune while in the throne room. He keeps a pad and pen in every room of the house and a 3/4 size acoustic guitar in his car. "You never know when a creative light bulb is going to go off", he sometimes says. "Not to mention, when I prop the guitar up in the seat just right and I slap a ball cap on the headstock, I can pull into the HOV lane." So, if you're stuck the mess that is DFW traffic and you see a guy in a white '97 ford t-bird singing to himself, that is likely just Mark taking advantage of the bumper-to-bumper down time. Oh and his bio info- He grew up in Houston. He lives in Dallas. He loves his family. He has a warm voice. He writes truthful songs. He is going to impress a lot of people.

Lyrics

Unexpected Pleasures

Written By: Mark Midland

VERSE I:
I poured coffee down a porcelain goldfish grave
as I opened up my eyes

seems heated for the second day
leaves a taste that I despise

so I headed on over to starbucks
not always my first choice

got a tall french roast and brochure on how I could help save a costa rican rain forest

CHORUS:
well it's the unexpected pleasures that are keeping me alive

I buy a cup of coffee & save the world
and have it all done by nine

so if your feeling like doing your share to make the world a better place

then give somebody you love some unexpected pleasure and put a big smile on their face

VERSE II:
I bought a six pack for my neighbor
driving home from work

he's mowed my grass for the second time this month and he probably thinks I'm a jerk

though I am not sure it was a gesture in kind, I'm grateful just the same

I'd have him over to the house for dinner some time but I can't remember his damn name

CHORUS:
well it's the unexpected pleasures that are keeping me alive

I can save the world & buy my neighbor a beer
and have it all done by five

so if your feeling like doing your share to make the world a better place

then give somebody you love some unexpected pleasure and put a big smile on their face

VERSE III:
well I come home from a long hard day to find you sitting there

you were steady patchin' holes in my old underwear

It'a been so long since I felt the warmth of unholey britches

It's the little things you come across in life that'll bring oyu unearthly riches

REPEAT SECOND CHORUS:
well it's the unexpected pleasures that are keeping me alive

I can save the world & buy my neighbor a beer
and have it all done by five

so if your feeling like doing your share to make the world a better place

then give somebody you love some unexpected pleasure and put a big smile on their face
