The Mark Monaco Band is pure Texas-style "Cowboy Rock."

Biography

Drive out to your local dance hall or hole-in-the-wall bar on any given Saturday night in Texas and it’s just the sort of place you might find Mark Monaco and his spirited roadhouse band. They’ll be rocking out like they’re playing The Garden, throwin’ back a few beers, and sweating like they just ran a marathon. But don’t be alarmed, it’s just another day at the office for this group whose live sets typically span three hours straight.
Ripping through three album’s worth of hard-hitting country originals like Shine, Wild In Texas, Time for This Cowboy to Run, and The American Highway, Monaco reaches out to his audience as if he's leading a small-town tent revival and creates an uproarious response in nearly every venue in which they perform.
Mark Monaco has been applying his craft most of his life. He attended Nashville’s renowned Music Business School at Belmont University and interned at MCA Records on Music Row at age 19. He later earned a Business Marketing Degree from Texas Tech University in 2001 and released his first album, the critically acclaimed American Highway, shortly thereafter. Monaco, who does all the writing and producing on his albums, has continued to tour throughout Texas and the South, building a loyal following and invaluable radio support on both American Highway and its follow-up, Alternate Frequency, landing him on the Texas Music and Music Review charts.
Now with the release of his third studio album, Overdrive, Monaco is poised to take his music to a broader audience. “I feel like everything is finally coming together,” says Monaco. “My writing has improved, my band line-up is the best it's ever been, and people that haven’t been exposed to my music in the past are starting to take notice. I’m ready for the next stage.”

Time for This Cowboy to Run

Written By: Mark Monaco

Time for This Cowboy to Run
words and music by Mark Monaco © 2004

My saddle’s packed and my ride is waiting
Got my cowboy hat, suitcase in hand
You always knew I couldn’t stay forever
And I know it’s not the way you would have planned
But I can’t stop the highway from calling
Keeps pulling me a little farther down the road
Another day, another rodeo
Another round look out here I go

Walk away
It’s what my heart’s telling me to do
What can I say
When it comes down to giving up or leaving you I say

Chorus:

Sure been a sweet ride
Wish that I could stay
If I ever give it up
I’ll be comin’ back someday
So I saddle up and I ride away
Fade into the sun
I’m gonna miss you baby
But it’s time for this ol’ cowboy to run

It happens every time I find the right one
A woman that I just can’t live without
Just when I think I’m ready to settle down boy
Opportunity turns my whole world inside out
But this dream of mine always seems to take me
Just when I start to think my ride is done
Lord knows a cowboy’s life ain’t always easy
And it keeps me chasing the sun

Walk away
It’s what my heart’s telling me to do
What can I say
When it comes down to giving up or leaving you I have to say

Chorus:

Sure been a sweet ride
Wish that I could stay
If I ever give it up
I’ll be comin’ back someday
So I saddle up and I ride away
Fade into the sun
I’m gonna miss you baby
But it’s time for this ol’ cowboy to run

Someday when my luck runs out
And the Lord calls me away
At least I know I gave it all
And I’ll look back and say

Chorus:

Sure been a sweet ride
Wish that I could stay
You’ll see me in that sunset
And we’ll meet again someday
So I saddle up and I ride away
Fade into the sun
I’m sure gonna miss you baby
But it’s time for this ol’ cowboy to run

Never Let You Down

Never Let You Down
Music and Lyrics by Mark Monaco © 2007

Through the storm
Through the night
Take my hand baby hold on tight
No more tears
No more lies
Just open your heart baby close your eyes

The sound of the raindrops falling down
Lost in this moment spinning ‘round and ‘round
And you know

Chorus:
Wherever you run I’ll follow
Whenever you fall I’ll be there
Till this world stops spinning ‘round
I’ll never let you down, no
I’ll never let you down

Dark of night
Hear you breathe
Feel your body so close to me
Don’t let this feeling ever end
You know you’ve got my heart in your hand

Tomorrow morning the sun will rise
But I want to see the moon dancing in your eyes

Chorus:
Wherever you run I’ll follow
Whenever you fall I’ll be there
Till this world stops spinning ‘round
I’ll never let you down, no
I’ll never let you down

Wild In Texas

Wild In Texas
Words and music by Mark Monaco © 2007

Greyhound station in the morning light
Ticket in her hand as she said good-bye
Never saw it coming guess I was too blind
I just stood there watching as she pulled away and left me behind

They say she’s like a thorn without a rose
Can’t blame the girl ‘cause everybody knows

Chorus:
The girls grow wild in Texas
And free as a Southern sun
Setting in a West Texas sky
She changed her mind in Texas
And Amarillo’s where we said good-bye

Austin ain’t as pretty without her by my side
And Dallas lights down sparkle quite so bright
The moon don’t dance on the water down in Corpus Christi Bay
And Galveston seems like a million miles away

They’ll steel your heart and they’ll be gone with the wind
Just remember if you’re ever in Texas again

Chorus:

We never got forever
But at least I had the night
And if she’s gone forever
Baby it was worth the ride

Shine

Written By: Mark Monaco

Shine
Words and music by Mark Monaco © 2007

Too many times I’ve seen it before
A perfect ten or the girl next door
Trade their soul without a trace
Conceal the sadness behind a perfect face

If you listen close you might hear the sound
A voice inside of you that’s yet to be found
Calling out but don’t you understand
Don’t have to change a thing to have the world in your hands

You can’t fix the outside what’s broken within
‘Cause you‘ll get to the end of the line and find
You’re starting all over again
Don’t you know

CHORUS:
You can’t escape from who you are
You can circle the world but you’ll never get far
So just be true to yourself
And never let go of your pride
And just shine from the inside

This world can be cold
And honey that’s for sure
And it’s alright to feel a little insecure
But don’t give in and forsake your dreams
To compliment the fool on life’s trivial things

A smile can only get you so far
So dig a little deeper and try real hard
You’re gonna be fine and honey this I know
Just take this with you wherever you go, remember

You can’t fix the outside what’s broken within
‘Cause you‘ll get to the end of the line and find
You’re starting all over again
Don’t you know

CHORUS:

American Highway

Written By: Mark Monaco

Bobby was a boy just about 17
Shelly was a small town girl with big city dreams
Down by the river every Friday night
they'd meet there
Plan their escape from that town headed anywhere

Chorus:
Well their dreams can take them anywhere they wanna go
In that '65 Mustang burnin' down the road
It's a long shot but they're gonna find a way
Blazin' on down the American highway

In another small town there's a poor man living on the street
It's a full-time job just tryin' to find a place to sleep
Then one day that ol' mustang comes a-rollin' by
And he flags 'em down and hits them up for a ride

Chorus:
Well their dreams can take them anywhere they wanna go
In that '65 Mustang burnin' down the road
It's a long shot but they're gonna find a way
Blazin' on down the American highway

We've all got that dream Somewhere in the back of our mind
We could make it come true if we only had the time
And that '65 Mustang is my expression for that dream
So get out on the highway
Make yours a reality

Chorus:
Well our dreams can take us anywhere we wanna go
In that '65 Mustang burnin' down the road
It's a long shot but we're gonna find a way
Blazin' on down the American highway

Bottle Rocket

Written By: Mark Monaco

It's a long way back to the girl you used to be
Small town beauty with her eye on the big city
You always said you're gonna be a star
Then you got the money and a Cadillac car
Little white lines on your party glass
You ain't got no future ain't got no past
You're a bona fide member of a dying breed
You got everything you wanted but you didn't need
Opportunity seemed to pass you by
Now it's too late to worry mama
Too late to cry

Chorus:
You're a bottle rocket
Sweet southern child
You're a reckless dreamer on a one-way ride
You came lookin' for a dream come true
Guess you never thought it'd ever happen to you
You started your journey at the end of the line
The train pulled out and you were left behind
You're so much older in no time at all
I guess the higher you climb
The faster you fall that's all

Good intensions bad advice
You took the money but you didn't think twice
Fifteen minutes and you're out of time
and you already spent every single dime
It's a cold hard lesson in reality
It's the price you pay for notoriety
But you can sit back baby and remember your past
Remember life goes on but the dream don't last
