Mark Mooney

BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

Singer songwriter Mark Mooney, a native Californian, was raised on rock. Lyrically and musically, Mark draws inspiration from classic rock in his work today, delivering folk-rock compositions, songs with both a message and a great beat. He has been likened to Cat Stevens and Neil Young.

Biography

Mark’s songs explore the richness of living: the challenges, setbacks and triumphs. “Misty Morning Dew” examines confusion and uncertainty, “Home” takes on yearning and loneliness, “Duster” conveys our ability to persevere through seeming futility. “By My Side” and “Falling Fast” shout the ecstasy of finding a great love. Mark brings a mature perspective to many compositions, such as “Growin’ Up,” which explores raising children as time slips through our fingers. Watching helplessly his daughter’s poignant first love – and first loss – is the subject of bittersweet “Romance.”

Although Mark loves a concert stage, he especially enjoys a club setting where he can connect more intimately with his audience. Gregarious and self-effacing, Mark engages the listener not only during songs but between songs as well. The night is not complete without a few good belly laughs. Mark says, “Music binds us together beyond language. We all listen with our ears and our heart. Music has the true potential to dissolve differences, if only for a moment, and to heal. I love being part of that.”

Mark’s self-produced second CD, “The Beginning of Again,” was released to American audiences in late 2008, after release to European radio earlier in the year. Zenpo Arts distributed Mark’s first CD, “First Time Around.” Both are available at digital retail stores worldwide: CD Baby, iTunes, Yahoo Music, Best Buy, Rhapsody, MSN Music, and DigStation.

Mark is currently recording his third CD, “The Storm and the Steersman,” scheduled for release in early 2010. He plays clubs in California and national festivals, and is available for tours and special engagements.

Lyrics

Friend of Mine

Written By: Mark Mooney

Say you’ve been waiting for a long, long time.
I’ve been looking, so hard to find.
Maybe someday, some way we’ll find
How to make you more than a friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine.

I’ve been trying, well, just hard to say
Give you more hints, more everyday.
Maybe someday, some way we’ll find
How to make you more than a friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine.

I’d keep my promise and take the time.
Tuck you in at night and sing some rhymes.
Hold me close would you be so kind,
Would you be more than a friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine.

Think of you all the time
Sometimes it hurts, sometimes it’s fine.
Oh how I wish I’d somehow find
How to make you more than a friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine.

I’d keep my promise and take the time
Tuck you in at night and sing some rhymes.
Hold me close would you be so kind,
Would you be more than a friend of mine, friend of mine, friend of mine.

Friend of mine
Friend of mine

Hard Road

Written By: Mark Mooney

Everyone’s watching, watch where you go.
Everyone’s coming, then your mother should know.
If you believe, gonna take the road.
If you don’t, well, how you gonna know.
Hard road you know.

Everyone’s searching, you search for the sky.
You keep looking, someday you’ll find out why.
You gotta live cause you know you’re gonna die.
You gotta wait until they decide.
Hard road you know.

Everyone’s knocking and they’re trying to get in
You close the door and hope they can’t see in
Some get to win, and some gotta lose
Someday you know, well, we all gotta choose.
Hard road you know.

Home

Written By: Mark Mooney

Been gone so long, well I don’t remember,
Where I call home.
Got a card, and I guess I’ll send her, the reasons that I know.
The reasons seem so clear, I’ve been gone for years,
And I want to go home.

So many nights that I don’t remember,
So all alone.
In my mind, I can’t forget her, for the reasons that I know.
Hasn’t been for years, still choke back the tears,
And I want to go home.

So many days that I think I spent there,
Too many times.
What’s not fair when it’s not there, all locked up inside
It’s nothing you can see, the reasons known to me.
And I want to go home, home, wanna go home.

It’s nothing you can see, the reasons known to me.
And I want to go home.

Misty Morning Dew

Written By: Mark Mooney

Watch the sunsets now, watch the moon.
Gotta get going, it ends too soon.
You know there’s riddles with no answers back.
By the time we get going, well, time to turn back.
Misty mornings too, you know it’s a misty morning dew.

Thank you now, well I’m feeling fine.
Gotta get going, can’t get left behind.
Cracks in the window lets the wind come in.
Been on a path, can’t tell you where I’ve been.
Misty mornings too, you know it’s a misty morning dew.

Hole in the middle, now don’t you fall in.
Man in the middle still wants to come in.
Better wash your hands, tell me where they’ve been.
Don’t remember since I don’t know when.
Misty mornings too, you know it’s a misty morning dew.

Misty morning dew
Misty morning dew
Misty morning dew
