""...A songwriter of this caliber...""

"The fact that you can hear a song, and a songwriter, of this caliber without shelling out $50 in ticket fees, or even $18.99 at your nearest corporate record warehouse is simply amazing. Mark and his band bring an honest, intimate, and exquisite folk style to the stage — guided by the stern whisper of Rice’s vocals." - Play Magazine

" It’s a patient album for a thoroughly impatient time, and at every turn it feels as though silent salvation is at hand.” - Ten Pounds of Headlines - www.NickDiUlio.com

Bio

Mark Rice has been performing as a singer/songwriter for the past four years while living in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Originally from a West Virginia steel mill town, he began playing his Dad's fifty dollar Sears & Roebuck acoustic guitar at age fifteen (he still has it..). He has performed for crowds in churches, bars, coffee shops, festivals, house concerts, etc., from Nashville to New York City, Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. He was featured on the Gene Shay Folk Show on WXPN in Philadelphia, as well as numerous pod casts around the country. This year Mark released his first full length record, Topography of a Bird, on Pub Can Records in Philadelphia. With the release Mark has seen steady sales and continued interest from around the country: most recently being CD Baby's Editors Pick for acoustic music, and being featured on the Iron City Rocks pod cast in Pittsburgh, PA.

Mark's music reflects greatly on his home, relationships and faith. Thematically he tackles doubt, faith, and human connection. Wherever he performs, he seeks to leave the listener with an experience of authenticity. Often, the connectedness between Mark and the audience is one established on a stripped-down vocal and raw, earthy lyrics that express the challenges of life in a relatable way.

Friends have joined Mark on this project and their talents have made the music more alive. Dave Young, Verien Brotzman, Sissy Clemens, Tom Swope, Chris LaRosa and Becca Brittan have given breath to the songs and helped to create a pleasantly unusual sound.
