"Chicago's Rose in Wonderful Trouble"

Do not fear Chicago Bull's fans; Derrick Rose is not in any kind of trouble. What were you thinking? Would that be so wonderful? No, I am talking about another Rose; musician Mark.

Here is a little history lesson about Chicago's "other" Rose. Since it is back to school time in the area, it is time to get your pens and pencils ready folks. The DuPage County alternative rocker was the former frontman for the Windy City based and nationally acclaimed rock band Spitalfield. This pop punk alternative band was formerly signed to Victory Records and toured the country to sold out shows everywhere. Youngsters loved them. This powerhouse band mutually agreed to split up in 2007 to pursue other opportunities. Okay, you may now put your pens and pencils down. There will be no quiz today. Your collective sigh of relief has been heard.

Since the break up of Spitalfield, Mark Rose has steadily been building his solo career. He has reached into the depths of his heart and soul resulting in his new full-length (11 song) cd "Wonderful Trouble". The result is absolutely wonderful. This writer, for one, was completely surprised at the end product. This great independent effort has a full mature sound that features tracks heavily influenced by two of Mark's all time favorite inspirations: Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel. In fact, it would be easy to picture the rhythm and blues of Earth,Wind & Fire backing Mark on this new release. The impact of this new sound should be a wider audience base for the multi-talented singer/songwriter.

7. Wonderful Trouble - Mark Rose

A progressive blend of adult-contemporary pop is what you'll find on Wonderful Trouble, the full-length debut from this Chicago-based musician. If you’re familiar with Spitalfield, you’re familiar with Mark Rose. If you have a love for hot wings, Genesis, and Mike Ditka— then you already have a love for Mark Rose. If Phil Collins and John Mayer had a musically inclined baby, that baby would be Mark Rose. Glorious? You betcha!

Bio

Mark Rose is a singer/songwriter from Chicago, IL who plays his own blend of R&B infused rock and pop. Front man & key songwriter for rock band Spitalfield from 1998-2007, Rose has made a name for himself as a versatile songwriter and performer.

Rose recently self-released Wonderful Trouble, his debut full length album (2011). "Rose’s full-length solo debut, has style and emotion of a John Hughes movie soundtrack," says Aubrey Welbers of Alternative Press Magazine. Working with producer Sean O'Keefe, the record took on a sound & shape that Mark had been working on putting together since the break-up of his former band. "The record is a departure from Mark's previous two EPs-- a little less John Mayer and a little more Stevie Wonder," says Indie Monday's Matt Tanaka. His backing band on the new recordings boasts some serious players, including Pat Sansone (Wilco) & Matt Walker (Filter, Smashing Pumpkins, Morrissey). With guest vocal appearances from some of his touring friends (Bob Nanna, Lucas Carpenter) & a grooving rhythm section-- Mark has found his stride with this album.

Mark studied music composition at Columbia College in Chicago for two years before signing a recording contract with Spitalfield in 2003 to Victory Records. The group disbanded at the end of 2007, but not before releasing three full-length albums, selling over 130,000 copies worldwide, and taking their music to the stage in nine countries on three continents. As one chapter ends a new chapter begins for the young musician, who is just 28 years old. "My goal is to make music I'm passionate about, and to give it my all. If it can stand up on its own, I've done my job. The rest is up to those listening to it."

Mark has supported acts as diverse and illustrious as Third Eye Blind, Patrick Stump, Julia Nunes, Craig Owens, The Academy Is..., Green River Ordinance, among many others.
