Bio

Simply my music could be described as a modern day Muddy Waters ,B.B. King, Albert King and traditional blues. We call it "Blues with Rythum", you can check your pulse with it. My unique sound and style sets me apart from the others.

Many talented artists have influenced my music. It started with the amazing R.L. Burnside at a Juke Joint in Holly Springs, MS. Later in years he was not only an inspiration, but he became a great friend to me. Another influential artist was Junior Kimbrough with a style all his own. Other talented artists that helped me shape my musical style include: B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Lighting Hopkins, Albert Collins, Freddy King and Little Jimmy King from Memphis, he was a personal friend and I had the honor to be a Pall Bearer at his funeral. While playing at Memphis In May with harmonica player and close friend, Blind Mississippi Morris I received encourging words and inspiration from Carlos Santana. I also played at Steven Segall's home for his birthday party. Without these amazing people, I would not be the musician I am today.

My energy and the connection with the audience is what sets me apart from the others. It is real down home country blues energy where you feel the soul of the music in every note. I don't need synthetic sounds to portray the music I play. It all comes from the heart.

I was born in Clarksdale, MS and raised on the blues. I'm very diversified in my music from Southern Rock to Gospel , but my passion is the blues. Pure enjoyment comes from performing as a singer , songwriter and guitarest. After winning the Gin Mill Blues Challenge in Indinola, MS, I will be competing in the 2009 Internationl Blues Competition in Memphis, TN. While in Indinola I had the honor to visit with B.B. King. My goal is to keep the Blues Tradition that orginated in Rosedale alive with my music and touch the very soul of those who hear it. People can then say Mark "The Mule Man" Massey is the real deal.
