"MONDAY MARCH 19 Mark Twain Indians"

MONDAY MARCH 19
Mark Twain Indians, Delightful
Young Man, Wheels of Fortune
[AMERICANA] Bo Easton, lead singer
of the Mark Twain Indians, bravely
balances a brassy indie attitude with
a weird but workable amalgamation
of genteel Americana and relent-
less “alternative” nostalgia. Wistful
violins, hesitant country twang and
blunt ’90s college-rock riffs are
jangled together with vocals that
resemble a less theatrical Harvey
Danger or a less emo Conor Oberst:
hard-edged but digestible. Teamed
with Wheels of Fortune’s meander-
ing folk melodies and Old Western
whistles, this is a night for polite
romancer—and those lookin’ to
relive their plaid-wearing, “Have
you heard the new Elliott Smith?”
days. ANIKA SABIN. Ash Street. 9
pm. $3. 21+.

- Willamette Week

"Mark Twain Indians, Kieskagato, Miraflores,"

Kieskagato, Miraflores,
Midnight Serenaders, Linda
Hornbuckle Band & more
[BYOB] I usually prefer to leave
North-of-Burnside street fairs to
candy-stained children, anarchists
on tall bikes and the pug-wielding
gentrification squad, but this one
shows promise. Kieskagato’s lurch-
ing, Radiohead-inspired rock rarely
comes out when the sun is shining,
but I think they’ll win over the sun-
burned masses. But Miraflores and
the Mark Twain Indians, with their
sunny dispositions, seem like natural
fits. Then you’ve got a few all-ages
no-brainers: The old-timey Midnight
Serenaders and legendary Portland
jazz singer Linda Hornbuckle. Yeah,
I may have to load a Slurpee cup
with Sparks and check this out.
CASEY JARMAN. Mississippi Avenue
Street Fair-Street Stage. Noon. Free.
All ages. Freak Mountain Ramblers,
Strangers Die Every Day, Jim Brunberg
Band, Fleshtone, Ashleigh Flynn Trio,
Cowboy Heroes and Ali Ippolito play
the Station Stage at 1 pm.
