John Updike once said that what art offers is space, a certain breathing room for the spirit. It’s that quest for breathing room which makes an established artist search deeper and further for the music she needs to make.

Life experience, rejection and passion fuel Marlain's new material in collaboration with Greggy K (Matisse). The new material (Bedroom Rock) set for release in December 2010, brings a ballsy approach to contemporary rock, driven by an extreme hunger to perform. 'Bedroom Rock' is the new engine for a well seasoned performer to re-introduce herself to existing and win over new fans.

Where did it all begin?
Marlain’s background encompasses cultural references from all the countries she’s lived in: Venezuela, Belgium, Cyprus, the US, the UK and now Greece. Only a very restless mind can produce an education that takes you from a biochemistry degree to music and dance studies in some of the most prestigious schools in the world (Royal Academy of Music, London and the Boston Conservatory). So what next? You get chosen among 5,000 hopefuls to perform at the Edinburgh Festival with the respected National Youth Music Theatre, you represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest and you tour the UK and Europe with a number of productions culminating with a performance at La Scala in Milan in front of 11,000 people. Are you happy with that? Not quite, so the journey continues with performances from the US (Berkeley Performance Centre) to Europe (Festival Rose D’Or – France, Switzerland and Ireland) and back on home turf with the Cyprus State Orchestra. The next step takes you into the belly of the beast with a major record deal (Warners Greece) and 3 albums (1 platinum and 1 gold) with pop act HI-5.

The last few years have focused all that energy and musical performance experience and have seen Marlain perform all over Europe, Australia and South Africa with mainstay Greek artists like Vassili Papakonstantinou and Michalis Hadzigiannis (Greece’s top selling artist). As her own songwriting has come into its own, she has picked up a best song award at the Pan Music Festival in Serbia and has been nominated as Woman of the Year at the Madame Figaro Awards (established women’s title in Greece).
