Bio

Born and raised inside the Navajo Nation, this 19 year old hails from Aztec, New Mexico.

Marlena's talent was discovered by a family member during a road trip they took to Nevada. At the astonishment of family, Marlena sang "Kentucky Moon" for them. After this she entered a school talent show at her elementary school. She put in a lot of time and effort in getting the song down pat in her mind. She amazed her teachers and fellow students. A majority of the audience stated she would make it one day with her voice.

Marlene entered a contest in Nashville, TN, in 1998. She did a demo of three songs and a video that aired on local television within a 75 mile radius of Nashville. Viewers casted their votes. Marlena's video proved to have had one of the highest ratings. She was asked to return to record an album, but due to financial restrictions, she did not make the return trip to Nashville.

Marlena has recently been touring the Navajo Nation with fellow performers, Socie Saltwater and Radmilla Cody. Each performance has been sold out during each concert. Multiple compliments from fans have included comments about her uplifting performances, positive messages, and even life-changing experiences after listening to her music. Marlena sees a lot of Native American youth in need of positive role models with a message that someone does care about them. If she can encourage and influence youth with her music, she feels that this is a major goal she has had.

Her singing ambitions are beginning to find more footage and grasp as she continues to travel. Marlena states, "I always have to remember that with each step I take, the only way I get there is through my relationship with God. My faith has a lot to do with my music."
