"Marley Munroe Shines While 'Staring At The Sun'"

Imbued with a soulful, rasp-flecked vocal grandeur that channels an emotionally resonant gravitas into the raw, passionate intensity of her articulate, from-the-gut delivery, Los Angeles based singer and BMG/Chrysalis songwriter Marley Munroe's artistic sensibility is grounded in an unabashed authenticity that is as impressive in its integrity as it is in its versatility, with Munroe saying 'my sound marries the different parts of who I am. I love bands like MUSE and Keane, but I also listen to Billie Holiday and Donny Hathaway every day. My music brings those loves together. I don't want to be straight-up any one thing because I have so many different influences. I also love Coldplay and U2. I love big, epic, stadium songs. But I don't know how to do pop without the soul'.

Here showcasing her abilities with an acoustic rendition of her song 'Staring At the Sun' that, along with 'I Don't Want To Be The One', appeared on Anastacia's recent comeback album, Munroe's songwriting ability has seen her work with some of the most respected songwriter's in the business, including Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Justin Gray, Rob Kleiner, Mateo Laboriel, The Monsters, Chris Braide, Trevor Lawrence, London Police, The Heavyweights and Chris Seefried.

Having received airplay for her song 'Boomerang', Munroe has graced the stage with her outstanding vocals and charisma at prestigious venues in New York and Los Angeles, including Rockwood Music Hall, The Mint, Hotel Cafe and Ghengis Cohen, with a recent main stage performance at the L.A. Pride Festival, and is currently in the process of working on her own material for an upcoming EP.

"Marley Munroe"

MARLEY MUNROE
"My sound marries the different parts of who I am," says emerging pop superstar Marley Munroe. "I love pop artists like Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, and P!nk, but I also listen to Billie Holiday and Donny Hathaway every day. My music brings those loves together. I don't want to be straight-up any one thing because I have so many different influences. I also love Coldplay and U2. I love big, epic, stadium songs. But I don't know how to do pop without the soul."

A native of New Mexico, Munroe's talents announced themselves early on and as a child she sang in church, at festivals, in school, at weddings, and at fairs. By the age of 12, Munroe had signed with a Christian label and began touring the country. After living in New York in her early twenties, Munroe's career took her to Los Angeles where she has bloomed as a singer. Her album, "Boomerang" shows off her impressive vocal range and styles ('60s girl grooves to Memphis RB influences) as well as explores different themes from relationship heartache to finding the strength and courage to leave your comfort zone and follow your dreams.

Munroe says, "I was born to entertain. It doesn't have to be a huge arena stage. It can be in front of two people in the studio. When I open my mouth to sing, I know I was born to do it. That feeling gets me out of bed every morning. It makes me feel alive like nothing else."

"Marley Munroe "Boomerang""

Marley Munroe, whose debut single “Boomerang” was just released via Epic Records. The message of “Boomerang” is tried and true and always successful when done right, as Munroe does here. Munroe just cannot seem to get over her do-wrong man. The push and pull with him gets so bad that she feels no pain when he leaves because she knows he will be right back into her awaiting arms. Boomerang an instant classic that finds Munroe wringing deep emotion from lyrics she penned about a love that keeps winging its way back.

"Marley Munroe Comes At Us Like A "Boomerang""

There seems to be a glass ceiling when it comes to R&B divadom. Talents like Melanie Fiona and Jazmine Sullivan (come back soon!) regularly lag behind sales-wise to artlists like Rihanna and Beyoncé (Keyshia Cole sends her best). On deck, a new candidate enters the fray by the name of Marley Munroe, whose debut single "Boomerang" was just released via Epic Records. Marley clearly has the vocals of the gutbucket variety, and, wisely, those pipes are allowed to carry the production. Listeners will feel every ounce of her pain during the entire four minute duration of the song. Marley Munroe seems willing and capable of breaking through the diva glass ceiling by just singing her way through it. Munroe's debut album is set to be released later this year.

IGN: How would you define your sound?

Marley Munroe: I would define my sound as Soulful/Pop, I am fusing the two together.

IGN: How did you get signed to Epic Records?

Marley Munroe: Epic Records heard my demo after which a meeting was set up with Tricky Stewart. Shortly after that meeting my Manager and I flew to N.Y to meet L.A Reid and I sang with no microphone or anything for him. I signed my recording deal with Epic!

IGN: How did you feel the day you signed your recording deal with Epic Records?

Marley Munroe: I felt humbled, to be able to do something I’ve worked so hard for and love. Nothing has been overnight with my career, so to see people accept and respond in a positive way to my passion…no greater feeling.

Marley Munroe: Sure…you never know what I may have up my sleeve. Life is an adventure and as long as you have passion behind your endeavors, you cant go wrong.

IGN: Are you the only person in your family that sings or is musical?

Marley Munroe: No, my family sings but not with the goal of having a career in music like myself.

IGN: What do you like to do for fun?

Marley Munroe: Besides music, I love shopping and I buy as many pairs of shoes as my home will hold.

IGN: Do you prefer to sing in the studio or before a live crowd?

Marley Munroe: Nothing can beat a live performance responding to the energy from the crowd. However, there is no part of singing I don’t like. I love being in the studio too!

Bio

Marley Munroe announces herself as a force to be reckoned with each time she steps on stage. Whether on the main stage at the 2014 LA Pride Festival, or popular music venues such as New York City's Rockwood Music Hall or Los Angeles' Hotel Cafe – Marley’s voice is all at once powerfully dynamic, penetratingly sultry and gently vulnerable. The moment her song begins, you can't take your eyes off of her.

With her colossal vocal talent and outsized charisma - along with her natural songwriting ability, Marley transitions easily between contemporary-soulful and edgy alternative songs without sacrificing an ounce of authenticity. She may sound like the second coming of Gladys Knight, but Marley refuses to be pigeonholed as a soul singer.
"My sound marries the different parts of who I am. I love bands like MUSE and Coldplay, but I also listen to Billie Holiday and Donny Hathaway. My music brings those loves together. I don't want to be straight-up any one thing because I have so many different influences. I love big, epic, stadium songs. But I don't know how to do pop without the soul."

As a BMG/Chrysalis songwriter, Munroe's collaborators include some of the music industry's most prolific writers, including Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Justin Gray, Rob Kleiner, Mateo Laboriel, The Monsters, Chris Braide, Trevor Lawrence, London Police, The Heavyweights and Chris Seefried. In May 2014, Anastacia released a much-anticipated comeback album, which features two of Marley's songs: Staring At The Sun & I Don't Want To Be The One.

Marley is currently working on an EP that features original material that she is proud to share. She is also scheduling live engagements into 2015
