Bio
Imagine being born blind but never knowing that you have a disability. Well, this basically describes Marlon Spears.
Producer/composer/pianist, Marlon is a sight for sore eyes. Being blind since birth, Marlon is a testament to the fact that "being blind is a state of mind, not a physical hindrance."
Marlon has never allowed his disability to prevent him from doing anything he desires to do in life. At the age of 12, Marlon realized his passion for music and began playing the saxophone. After mastering the saxophone by the age of 16, Marlon found an interest in piano. Though he took professional piano lessons for one year, most of his piano skills are self taught.
Marlon graduated from Ramsey High School with honors. Marlon went on to graduate from Lawson State Community College with a 4.0 gpa, after which he majored in Music Technology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned a degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Marlon's passion for music goes far beyond just being a great musician. To him, music is a way of life. Marlon envisions the art of sound through his music, which can be heard in every composition.
Marlon has just completed his first solo project. The project, entitled "Ridin'", consists of eight original instrumental jazz compositions and two popular cover tunes that he has rearranged to add his own laid back, jazzy flavor. One of the original compositions on this album is entitled "Greatness", a tribute to Stevie Wonder, the main influence in Marlon pursuing a career in music.
Marlon has opened for great artists such as Donnie McClurkin, Deborah Cox, Clarence Carter, Michael McDonald, Foxy Brown, and various others.
Marlon has also played with the Lincoln Center Jazz Ensemble in New York, and has also had the opportunity to perform for the Honorable Judge Greg Mathis.
