Bio
The Marni Levitt Collective is a wave, a ripple-effect, a tide of rushing sounds and textures in the form of female voices. The layers of rhythmic melodies and syllables are supported by body percussion, percussion instruments, drums and guitar. The gentle yet powerful sound is a sum of many parts: talents, skills, stories and creative collaboration by 4 (and sometimes more) women. Inspired by African/World Music Drumming and Dance traditions, Jazz, RnB/Soul, HipHop, Yoga chants and Folk music, Marni Levitt Collective performs original, intuitive pieces that engage and inspire. We craft songs based on personal, social, ecological and spiritual themes.
Marni has been writing songs and performing for almost 20 years. As a young person, she studied classical piano and violin. She later picked up guitar, and more recently has been studying West African drum and dance. Marni also uses Hatha Yoga techniques to enrich her singing voice.
Her songs are influenced by traditional and contemporary jazz, African, folk, roots, and RnB. Marni is especially inspired by music that fuses several styles together.
Her songs are rhythmically-driven stories exploring the connection between her inner and outer worlds.
For Marni, writing and performing songs is a powerful way to share music as a spiritual conduit for healing.
