Bio
The saying "Third times a charm" certainly rang true for Fairbanks, Alaska's Marquetta Miller when it came to playing guitar. After a couple of false starts (and plenty of sore fingers) she stuck with it and starting writing songs and starting playing little coffee shop shows, often opening for another almost-famous Alaskan, Matt Hopper. A self-described music nerd Marquetta can name influences from all over the musical spectrum including The Police, John Mayer, Elvis Costello, Rogers and Hart, and Lauryn Hill. After spending 4 years making a name for herself in Fairbanks with her laid-back jazzy songs about Cadillacs, The Island of Atlantis and a mermaid or two, Marquetta Miller finally decided to leave the sub-zero Alaskan winters and the endless days of summer for the cool greens and thriving music scenes of Seattle. While working on her soon to be released EP The Rainy City Sessions, Marquetta stumbled upon an ad for the Experience Project's Sound Off!and figured since she had all these songs freshly recorded she'd might as well enter. Never expecting to get into a contest dominated by bands she was pleasently surprised to recieve a call in January informing her that she'd made it into the competition. Although she didn't win the Sound Off competition was a great way to get exposure, new fans, and contacts with other bands in the Seattle area.
