Bio
MARQUEZ formed after singer/songwriter Steve Marquette joined a friend at a bassist Steve Shaws studio in Botany. A warehouse were a bunch of local musicians where jamming after the original band broke up. The origins of Marquez where very accoustic consisting of jembe, conga, accoustic bass and Steve on accoustic guitar. It is at the warehouse where he met bass player Steve Shaw and Drummer Chris Shaw but it was still a year before anything formal was done in regards to restarting the band. All this changed in November 2007 when Marquez made their debut at Darling Harbour as part of Oz Music Week. They have since joined forces with blues guitarist Grahame Elsley who has completed the Marquez sound and given the songs the room to breathe that they needed. Their style is rootsy, bluesey, folk rock with a groove. Their rythym is foot tappingly infectious while their lyrics are thought provoking and confronting with songs like Under A peaceful Sky, No Need For War and World Without Love. With heartfelt, rootsy songwriting on life , love, loss, war and politics their songs are a social commentary of whats going on in the world around us, but their groove takes the edge off by prompting you to dance. Having just completed a demo, Marquez are ready for what lies ahead. Enjoy!
