Bio
Marquise Porter is considered to be one of Detroit's most talented and revered rappers on the scene and is considered to be one of the most respected artists to surface from Motown onto the multifaceted world of hip-hop. This can all be attributed to his unique style of rap: Marquise sets himself apart from the status quo. In 2001 after hearing just two of Marquise's tracks, he was quickly signed to Wish Records, a label owned by TLC's Lisa Left Eye Lopez. Simultaneously, his rhymes also impressed the well known Rough Riders label which housed famous rap artists such as DMX and Eve, as well as the infamous Suge Knight who also showed an interest in Marquise's brazen skills. His first solo album titled The Book Donald Didn't Finish was released in the summer of 2001, which included the popular single To The Top, a rap song featuring MC Breed. A local hit, the song held the ..1 spot for nearly a year on WDTJ - Radio-One's Battle of the Beatz, a radio segment showcase for local talent. Soon after, he completed his second album Lobster Tailz back in March 2005. His next single off that album titled 313 produced by DJ Los was placed on a mixtape and circulated around town and in popular radio stations in the summer of 2004. The song's popularity and mass appeal about the inner city of Detroit grew so much that it solidified Marquise Porter's stance in the rap industry. But before the album was released, it all came to halt when he was shot twice during a robbery attempt while on his way to a performance. This unfortunate incident abrupted the promotion of his second album. A music trendsetter, Porter's upcoming single In Da City (produced by Saint Denson), from his third album titled The Porterhouse, is a song that tells a thought-provoking story about the conditions of Detroit from his eyes. His third album is scheduled for release July 4, 2006. A remarkable talent, Marquise Porter has worked with as well as shared the stage with a roster of impressive artists such as MC Breed, Lisa Left Eye Lopez (TLC), Mocha (from Missy Elliots camp), Big Mike (from the Geto Boyz) and T.I. Most recently in May 2006 he was selected to express his lyrical prowess on stage and performed on the bill with famed rapper E-40 at the first annual What's Next On The Menu Concert presented by WJLB, a major Clear Channel radio station. In December 2004, Marquise Porter signed with Mobb North Records
