Toronto Independent Music Awards (TIMA) Review
October 9th, 2007
>Article by Charlene Cieslik
MARSHALL DANE:
At first you might look at this guy and think he looks like Nickelback. But that shouldn’t dissuade you. They don’t sound like Nickelback. And though they didn’t win Best Live Electric, they rocked the TIMAs with a guitar-laden and bongo-riddled tune called “Mama.”
It was the first song of the night that people got up and danced for. Or, at least clapped their hands and nodded their head. They bring an amazing 7 members to the stage and put out a truly rocking effort to entertain the crowd.
“Mama” was a long and varied rendition, and I think one of the few uses of bongos at the TIMAs. When I hear “indie” I tend to mostly think alternative, but what these guys do with guitars and drums is good old classic rockin’.

Toronto Independent Music Awards 2007.
For all of the unsung heros of the independent music industry, its great to see an event to mark their achievements. Thursday, October 4th, The Phoenix Concert Theatre was transformed into the 3rd annual Toronto Independent Music Awards presented by Eye magazine. Hosted by local comic Sabrina Jalees, featuring a variety of independent acts and an evenings worth of awards, the 2007 TIMA's proved to be a tribute to Canadian musicians.
Some of the notable performances from the evening included Marshall Dane who was without his standard band, but put on an engaging performance of his beautiful acoustic material complete with 3 percussionists playing bongos and djembe. Any fan of Jack Johnson or Dave Matthew's would definitely want to check out this talented song writer.
