Bio

Evolution is natural, even in music. Mars Rover exemplifies this truth. Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, this duo's take on hip hop ushers the genre into uncharted territory with a fresh, heavy-hitting sound. The beats are energetic; the lyrics are soulful and uplifting. Mars Rover is currently promoting the single "Radio" in anticipation of their upcoming album. The album, entitled "We Are Mars Rover", is scheduled for release summer 2011.
Mars Rover is comprised of two members, Kobie Beharrysingh and Ojavi Hewitt. Their paths crossed in high school when Kobie, then known as Kid Flow, formed a Hip-Hop group called Smooth Individuals with fellow classmates Kid Suttle and Ojavi, then known as DJ Chrome. As Smooth Individuals they played various talent shows and public events. As time passed, the group disbanded. Kobie and Ojavi turned their focus to recording music production.
Kobie took a break from writing and enlisted in the Recorded Music Production program at Trebas Institute in Toronto where he learned the art of audio engineering and record production. Kobie thrived in the creative energy and soaked up all the knowledge and information. Engineering and production seemed second nature to him and he graduated in the top of his class.
Meanwhile Ojavi, keeping the alias DJ Chrome, focused on the art of Turntabilism and participated in DJ battles and showcases and would often play different clubs and parties in and around the Toronto area as part of DJ Crews - Soca supreme and Carmel City. Being a DJ segued into beat making which eventually led to producing. While perfecting their respective crafts Kobie and Ojavi kept in touch often seeking each others council on various projects.
This eventually led to them forming an unofficial production team who worked with local artists of varied genres. In 2007, their musical journey came full circle when the duo stepped into the mic booth. They were now versed in the arts of songwriting, producing, recording, mixing and mastering and as a result of doing everything for themselves, a unique sound was created. In winter 2008, they branded the sound - Mars Rover.
"It's really all about the music," says Kobie. "We're proud of it, and want to share it with the world. We plan to take the music to the people". In the upcoming year, Mars Rover will be showcasing their songs at various venues and open mics. "The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive," adds Ojavi. "It's really motivating".
Ready your radio! Mars Rover has landed.
