Marta Casas Mairal

"Soniando" is the name of the first album of Marta Casas Mairal, in wich she makes a new fusion between jazz and aragonese folk music from Spain. Through a powerful but  gentle voice,Marta Casas and her band immerses into traditional Aragonese songs and change the instrumentation and armonies adapting them  to the jazz sound,breaking the frontiers of the traditional structures and opening windows to improvisation to find the highest level of musical expresion.The result is a music that can touch hearts.

, born in 1981, started singing folk aragonese music (jota aragonesa, the music of their family lands) at age of 13. During more than 15 years she has performed and sing this music, growning with and on it.  At age of 25 and after ending her studies in Musical Education, she starts studing jazz  at "Taller de musics" in Barcelona, where she can learn about jazz armony and improvisation,starting then to perform with lot of musicians of this field in Barcelona.

In summer 2010 she studied in Berklee College of Music. Was then where she started working in her first compositions of "Soniando". Recently Berklee has awared her with a scholarship to continue her studies in this College. 

During her trajectory she has performed with multiple bands as Zouke Root and Alacanto, and is also singer in the fusion band Sherpah (http: www.sherpah.cat)

Right now Marta Casas is ending her Graduate in Jazz at Conservatori del Liceu at Barcelona. She just has recorded her first album, that you can listen on www.soundcloud.com/marta-casas-mairal  or in her web site www.martacasas.com 

Her band  instrumentation is composed by voice, piano, bass and drums.
