Biography

Is it really possible to love every song on a full-length CD? After listening to Marti's self-titled genre-crossing multi-lingual debut CD, you may find your faith in the integrity of popular music once again renewed. Each song has its unique flavor and style, each song will find its own little nook in your heart.

A seasoned jazz flautist and vocalist, Marti grew up tagging along with her jazz musician father to rehearsals and gigs, taking in every experience as a breath of life. She became a jazz studies major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and continued her studies at Berklee College of Music.

After college, Marti spent several years living in Spain, where she was intensely exposed to the rich world of Latin music. She also toured and performed with high-caliber musicians from Cuba, Europe and South America. She took masterclasses with Jorge Pardo, saxophonist and flautist for the legendary Paco de Lucia. During this time, Marti made appearances on a number of national Spanish television shows, performed at the World's Fair in Seville and was a special guest soloist at the Glasgow International Jazz Festival. Marti's ability to expertly cross genres without batting an eyelash is truly extraordinary!

Take My Hand

Written By: Marti Walker

Take My Hand - Mano En Mano

Take my hand ... toma mi mano (take my hand)

Porque somos hermanos (Because we're brothers) ...
we were born different forms of each other.

Take my hand ...
'favor, tomemos manos (Please, let's take hands).

I call to every nation ... estoy rogando a todas las razas (I plead with every race.).

Mano en mano, seamos hermanos. (Hand in hand, let's be brothers.)

Put your hand in mine and we will live as brothers.

Mano en mano, seamos unidos. (Hand in hand, let's be united.)

With your hand in mine, we vow to love each other.

He says Yahweh and she says Rama.
Some pray to Ra and others call to Allah.

You may see Jesus as the only way to God - Well I say love is greater than any of these names combined.

Take my hand ... toma mi mano

Porque somos hermanos ... we were born different forms of each other.
Take my hand ... 'favor, tomemos manos.
I call to every nation ... estoy rogando a todas las razas.

Mano en mano, seamos hermanos.
Put your hand in mine and we will live as brothers.
Mano en mano, seamos unidos.
With your hand in mine, we vow to love each other.

Oran a Brahma y a Buddha también.
Otros piden a Krishna que les de su bendición.

Tantos nombres y tanta confusion...
Yo digo que el amor será nuestra salvación.

(There are those who pray to Brahma, and to Buddha, too.
Others ask blessings of Krishna.
So many names - so much confusion.
I say that love will be our salvation.)

Too Late for Love

Written By: Marti Walker

Verse 1
As I wander down this lonely road, I feel my heart so heavy –
it’s weighted from this load of memories –
thoughts of how we used to be.
We will you ever hold me close again?

Chorus
Or is it too late for love?
Too late to say the things we should have?
Too late for anything real to grow –
can you tell me what I need to know?

Verse 2
This indecision is too much to bear.
How ironic when we never seemed to care before –
seldom looking past the safe space of today.
Will we ever have that chance again?

Chorus
Or is it too late for love?
Too late to say the things we should have?
Too late for anything real to grow –
I’m a prisoner to this memory.

Bridge
Yeah and time keeps tickin’ and we are watchin’ it pass by.
I’m wondrin’ if we’re gonna’ get it together in this life.
Will we ever rediscover one another, arms open wide, nothin’ to hide?

Verse 3
In my heart I know you will always be
the one I dream of when I think of family –
of children playing in the yard, our cat stuck up a tree…
But I don’t know if we’re meant to be like that

Chorus
Is it too late for love?
Too late to say the things we should have?
Too late for anything real to grow –
‘Cause you say that you may never know
what it feels like to forgive me & truly let go.
Can you let go?
