"Great CD!!!"

I bought this CD because I heard some of the music on Sur Peru (TV Channel) and I liked it. But I have to say that it was a very nice surprise to find that all the songs in the CD are beautiful, these ladies have beautiful voices, and the music is awesome. Good luck and best wishes. - Vanessa

Bio

English:

In 2004, the band MARU was formed after Ruth Huamani left LAS CHICAS DAYA, the 1st all female group of latin folk music in Peru. She was the director and arranger for that group for 5 years. With this band, Ruth toured all of Peru and at the beginning of 2000, they surprised the Peruvian world of entertainment with their talent.

But by destiny, while with las Chicas Daya she got to know Marisol Muguerza, then principal vocalist of the salsa trio “Mariluna.” This encounter was at the green room of a television channel while waiting to perform in the program “La Chola Chabuca”. Marisol then contacted Ruth about her preferences about Andean music. She started creating this type of music with her father. This confession surprised Ruth as well as the warmth of her voice and the strength of her performance.

A year later, both separated from their respective musical projects because of musical differences and different objectives. They also lost total communication between them. Marisol momentarily left the music industry, becoming a co-host of a television program, “A Buena Hora” alongside Carlos Alvarez and Ruth Karina. But, her passion for music made her come back to the musical stage and this time as the lead singer of the well-known Peruvian saxophone player Jean Pierre Magnet and the band called “La Gran Banda” singing international music. On the other side, Ruth becomes a member of the group Antologia, where she plays lead guitar and does some arranging. Then she became a member of the Julio Andrade’s band, a Peruvian rock musician that fuses Andean music with rock and roll. She also tried her luck as a musical producer, gaining valuable experience that later on she may use on a new CD project about to be born.

In March 2003, the idea to form a musical group of Peruvian popular music - but with a different format to the ones already known in peru - is born. Keeping as a strong base for this project the authentic Andean sounds and fusing them with modern sounds. Marisol was to be the lead vocalist and Ruth was to play guitar and vocals.

This time destiny brings them together with the producer Ricardo Silva who is the partner with Glen Barclay, Executive Producer of Goin’ Native Records in North America. After a year they start to record an album called “Angel Guardian”, which was released in March of 2005 at the Barranco Station. It received critical acclaim from many press organizations.

Marisol and Ruth unite their talent to start an original project fusing folklore with international music.

Espanol:
