Bio

Matthew was born in Frankfurt, Germany, of American parents. His father is solo trumpet in the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra, hence his musical beginnings, perhaps. Matthew started private piano lessons when he was barely five years old. At the age of 13 he started to write his own songs and had his first recording studio experiences. At age 15 he began with vocal coaching which was a turning point for him. This is when he decided to strive to become a well known singer and songwriter. In the same year, he had his first CD release . When he was 18 he taught the high school Pop choir more than the designated professional teacher did. He also had the major role of Sky Masterson in the high school musical, “Guys and Dolls.” Upon graduation from high school he auditioned for Berklee School of Music in Boston and was accepted, but a few months later decided not to attend because his musical career was just taking off. He signed a contract with BMG/RCA and his group “Fusion” brought out their first single. “China in Your Hand” was released in 1999. Matthew wrote the lyrics, composed the music, and coached the group of two girls and two boys. It landed in the Top 30 of the German Media Control Charts and sold over 100,000 copies. The next single, “You Make Me Feel” was also composed by Matthew in cooperation with Roberto Rosan, the producer of the very successful group, “Sweet Box.” In total, Matthew wrote eight of the 12 songs on Fusion’s album, “InFusion One.” The group filmed two videos for “China in Your Hand” and “You Make Me Feel”, which were shown many times on the VIVA television music channel.

Although “Fusion” disbanded in 2000, this was no reason for Matthew to stop his musical career. Determined to show the world the deep feeling he has when he sings, he went solo and hooked up with the producer Thorsten Stenzel. This brought about some new avenues to explore musically, and together with the popular Swiss DJ Tatana, he had many successful hits on the Swiss Hit Parade. “More Than Words” was the official Hymn of the Street Parade 1999 in Switzerland. This was followed by a Gold award for the Top 10 Tatana Hit “Words” (2002), and then the Top 20 Hit, “Moments” in 2003. “Words” and “Moments” also had videos produced that were broadcast on the Swiss television music channel.

Today, Matthew is on the way to becoming a top singer and songwriter. His songs have received honorable mention in the ISC songrwriting competition, 2004. And currently, his song “Inhale, Exhale” is in the finals of the ISC songwriting competition, 2007. Another one of his songs, “Drive So Far” is being performed by the up-and-coming EMI boy group “Partsix” (www.partsix.de).

The goal that Matthew has set for this new year of 2007 is to not only write more hit songs, but perform them, also.
