Born in Winter

Written By: M.A. Kaspar

Song Title 1: Born in Winter
Category: Lyrics Only
Writer: Mary Alice Kaspar

I am drowning in the desert, parched while out at sea –
Gasping for air on land, as these waves crash down on me.
I am lost in my hometown, lonely amongst friends –
Forlorn in a treeless forest, trapped in a maze with no end.

I am searching for the answers, without the questions to ask –
Yearning to move mountains, with a teaspoon for the task.
I am buried by endless guilt over what I can’t control –
I’d hate God if it would help, but only he can save your soul.

My child, oh my sweet child:
You were made in Summer, and the sun danced in the sky –
They tried to tell me in the Fall, not all birds were meant to fly.
You’ll be born in Winter, forced to face the frigid night –
How we will all surround you, with love’s warmth and light.
No knowing how you’ll bloom, as to dear life you will cling –
Yes, you’ll be born in Winter, then grow strong in the Spring.

I am but a grain of sand on an unknown ocean side –
But if waves weren’t met by grains, wouldn’t the land lack and slide?
So Lord, ease this torrent of emotions, dry this flood of despair –
There is no greater worry, than for the child that you bear.

Explanation: This was written for my unborn child when she was diagnosed with a potentially fatal birth defect. Embedded are the classic seven stages of grief (shock, denial, bargaining, fear, anger, despair, and acceptance), as well as the final emotional stage I refer to as hope.

How to Live

Written By: M.A. Kaspar

Verse 1:
Love is not conditional,
It’s the ultimate tie that binds –
Truth isn’t faulty,
It keeps course when the road winds.
Hope isn’t happiness,
It’s a soul unwilling to tire –
Grace isn’t pretty, rather your gut under fire.

Verse 2:
Strength isn’t force,
It’s stamina from deep within –
Peace isn’t passive,
It’s the balance between all men.
Life isn’t living,
If it’s spent on the sideline –
Faith isn’t just felt, you must seek to find.

Bridge:
Embrace your burdens,
Carry far and wide your cross –
By accepting your trials,
Nothing will be a loss.

Chorus:
You see sometimes you must lose,
Lose it all to gain –
You may need to go crazy,
In order to stay sane.
Even when you feel broke and down,
Reach for more to give –
At times life may choose you,
But you decide how to live.

How Beautiful Love Can Be

Written By: M.A. Kaspar

Walk with me,
Down the roads of time and age.
Talk with me,
Throughout your joy and your rage.
I can’t promise you heaven, or say we won’t go through hell –
But if we give it a try, we can let time be the one to tell –
Just how beautiful love can be.
When it’s shared between you and me.
How beautiful love can be.

Dance with me,
As we learn to smile through strife.
Romance me,
Without love, what is life?
While the future is cloudy, one thing is clear –
When we’re together, there is nothing to fear –
That’s how beautiful love can be.
When it’s shared between you and me.
How beautiful love can be.

Turn to me,
Trust me with the secrets of your soul.
Yearn for me,
Come to me to lose all control.
We’re not all things in one, yet somehow complete –
There’s no rain, no firestorm, together we can’t beat –
That’s how beautiful love can be.
When it’s shared between you and me.
How beautiful love can be.

Being With You (Holiday Jingle)

Written By: M.A. Kaspar

I don’t need snow, I don’t need mistletoe –
(doot, doot)
When I’m with you!
I don’t need rings, or other shiny things –
(doot, doot)
When I’m with you!

Sure gifts are nice, oh like sugar and spice –
Wonder under the tree – is that box for me?
But it can’t compare, with something more rare –
Just being with you!
Bah, dat, dah, dat, dah – being with you!
(doot, doot, dooo)

I don’t need gloves, I don’t need turtle doves –
(doot, doot)
When I’m with you!
I don’t need sweets, or other kinds of treats –
(doot, doot)
When I’m with you!

So give me coal, if you must –
Because it’s YOU or bust!
By plane or by car, oh, we’ll travel real far.
The best gift of all, is having a ball –
Just being with you!
Bah, dat, dah, dat, dah – being with you!
(doot, doot, dooo – yeah!)

Headwinds

Written By: M.A. Kaspar

Bill was a bright, gentleman,
Always gave more than he took -
Not sure why in his hour of need,
He chose to close his book.
Daryl was a bright, mighty man,
A voice bigger than the sky -
A spirit of rain and thunder,
But he wouldn’t dare to cry.

When the headwinds came howling,
Both ended giving way -
Leaving loved ones in the dust,
Full of anguish and dismay.
Each one seemed to deserve,
A second chance or encore -
All they needed was a wake up call,
Lost souls worthy of more.
When headwinds hit you my friend,
And they will, it’s a fact -
Even if you fight to stand still,
Don’t do what you can’t take back.

Darren was bright and free,
An abounding, limitless lad -
Some drinks, rain and a fast car,
That was that, and he was had.
Ryan was a bright boy too,
Just reviled in reckless ways -
He’d need to ride sky high at night,
Escape the downs of his days.

When the headwinds came blowing,
All but one flickered away -
Leaving loved ones in the gust,
Of their anguish and dismay.
The one that least deserved,
Was the one that got an encore -
Thank God it was a wake up call,
For the lost soul worthy of more.
When headwinds hit you my friend,
And they will, it’s a fact -
Even if we fight to stand still,
Please let me help you push back.

Yes even if we fight to stand still,
Please let me help you push back.

Fickle Friend

Written By: M.A. Kaspar

Verse 1:
Mystery man, a force unseen,
The Wizard of Oz, behind the scene.
I entered your web fully forewarned,
Yet all I saw was how you were adorned.
You treated me well, or so I thought,
But there was a price to all I bought.

Chorus 1:
Fickle friend, selfish soul –
You get what you want, then you’re ready to roll.
Yes life’s a game, we all want to win –
That much alone, ain’t the core of your sin.
It’s that you will do, and you will say –
Anything it takes to get your own way.
Careful with words, as one shouldn’t pretend –
To be who they’re not, my fickle friend.

Verse 2:
Mystery man, so full of charm,
So quick to take me under your arm.
I should have known, it wasn’t me,
It was the title, my perceived pedigree.
Then my stature fell, at least in your eyes,
And that’s what it took to realize.

Bridge:
When chips are down, you’re nowhere to be found –
Fickle friend (fickle friend).
When the lights aren’t bright, you’re long out of sight –
Fickle friend (fickle friend).
In a moment of need, you’re no friend indeed –
Fickle friend (fickle friend).

Chorus:
Fickle friend, insecure fool –
I’d like to remind you of the Golden Rule.
Don’t get me wrong, I stood to gain too –
But then that’s difference between me and you.
I’m in it for good, through thick and through thin –
To hell and back, every loss, every win.
But I can’t explain, beginning to end –
To someone like you, a fickle friend.
