Bio

Mary and the Giant play a style of music that they have begun to call Colonial Pop. It is a mixture of old and new Americana mixed with a wonderful blend of new and old Pop hooks and sounds. Taking from many different influences individually they have created this sound from many different backgrounds and have made it young and their own.

MATG started in January of '09 when the band that the three were formerly in disbanded and left them alone and to their own devices. Starting all over from the ground up Jason, Zac and John began writing all new and different material. They have begun to build a strong fan base in their hometown of Columbia, MO where the three share a house together. However this is not where any of them were originally from. Zac, lead vocals, was born and raised in Peoria, IL and will never let anyone forget it. Where as both Jason and John, Guitar and Bass respectively, were from St. Charles, MO. They met in Late '07 at the University of Missouri and have played together since. Living together has been an interesting task for the three of them, though it has seemed to create an unimaginable bond between them both as friends and as song writers. Some of the major influences of MATG are those such as The Format, Van Morrison, Steely Dan, Modest Mouse, CCR, Say Anything, Alkaline Trio and many more. However, possibly the greatest thing about MATG is the way that they perform their live shows. It has been said by many that have viewed them that they bring an entirely new energy to acoustic music. Sitting or standing they have created a way to convey the energy of each song to the audience through both their passion and energy in performance. It seems that they have found a way to not only write music that the three young men love, but to be able to let that shine through every time they play together. As all of them have said to me at one point or another, they will do this until the day that they die because it is what makes all of them and they all hope to share it with the World.
