"Local Spins of the Week: Martin & Lamm and Mary Dailey"

Between them, West Michigan natives Greg Martin and Mark Lamm had quite the run with their music -- together and separately -- in the 1970s and early 1980s, touring the Midwest. Now, Martin & Lamm are back with a new album, "Too Little Time" that shows off their terrific harmonies, some solid songwriting and expert mixing by Grammy Award-winning producer Billy Williams.
Martin, a Grand Rapids native who now lives in Grand Haven and runs a DJ entertainment business, called it "a slow evolution that dawned us that we could do this one more time," especially because they had "a stockpile" of original material to record and perform, including today's featured track, "Ocho Rios."
"The magic's still there," said Martin, noting the duo already is making plans for another studio CD now that Lamm has moved back to Grand Rapids from Arizona.
The duo performs at 7-10 tonight at Noto's Lounge, 6600 28th St. SE, and the restaurant expects a full house for the show. Admission is free. Call 493-6686 for information.

Grand Rapids' Mary Dailey, minister of music at Grand Valley Gospel Temple, gives gospel music a unique, soulful spin. This is the second album of Dailey's that has passed across my desk over the years and I'm impressed by tracks such as today's featured song, "Lead Me Through," with an arrangement that gives her voice plenty of room to shine.
Her latest album, also titled "Lead Me Through," is available at Baker Book House. More details online at maryfromtheheart.com. - John Sinkevics

Bio

Mary Dailey sang from as early as she can remember. She sang at school and local talent shows until the family started attending Grand Valley Gospel Temple, (ACJC) in Grand Rapids. Mary became Youth Director at the church when she was 15. She accepted the call from god to the Preaching Ministry of the Word. She now holds the position of Minister of Music.
Few visitors to Grand Valley will ever forget Mary’s soul stirring singing. Many have come to hear God within the sound of her voice. Until she started recording, church services, weddings and occasional funerals were the only opportunity for people to hear her. Now, she is fulfilling the request of many over the years to “make me a tape of your singing."
Mary has appeared on The Bobby Jones Gospel Show, and has also opened for Gospel Singer Rance Allen.
