Maryen Cairns is a singer/songwriter creating historically driven acoustic folk music...  creative director and the driving force behind South East Queensland's Mfest, Maryen is a  wild woman of Queensland's mountains' of Mount Warning's caldera. Her new album, “Femina Australis” will be released early 2016.  This album will a return of sorts to Cairns’ musical roots, as legendary Stones producer Chris Kimsey has been involved since its conception, and will be intimately involved in its final stages of overdubbing and mixing in London. Since Kimsey produced Maryen’s 1st single “Too Young To Die” 20 years ago on his own time, it seems fitting for these historical stories, of which some are written about British immigrants to Australia, to be produced in such a collaboration.

Containing astonishing tales of the women of Australia, “Femina Australis” paints extraordinarily clear pictures of a few poignant moments in our country’s history. Destined to be part of a larger theatre piece,  you will hear the songs live in intimate acoustic solo performances with guitar, piano, autoharp, vocals & percussion in 2016. Concurrently with the album a book will be released containing the songs & stories from the album.

Cairns's background is of being Scottish born, growing up in Sydney and traveling to London for a 3 week holiday which turned into 11 years of being involved in London’s original music scene primarily as a solo artist (with a 7 piece band) but also as a session musician, actor and model. She sang back up on a UK Top 40 hit, played the central character in a commercial for BOSE speakers, and released 2  albums (“The Pictures Within”and “For Eternity”) of original material on a US label. The single “Too Young To Die” highlighted the AIDS epidemic and the video was used for AIDS education in schools by Nicolodeon.

Returning to Australia, Maryen became a mother before embarking on her pursuit of encouraging original music by starting and hosting Sydney Songwriters - Sydney’s 1st Original’s Only Open-Mic night. In 2004 she released her 3rd  album, “Stories From Beneath”  before moving to Springbrook Mountain, Gold Coast, Queensland, where she lives in yurt with a view - off the power grid.

Cairns's 4th album “Stories From The Red Tent” was released in 2012. The song “Homebirth”, alongst with photographer Deirdrie Cullen’s birth images, has been viewed over 50,000 times on YouTube.
